After leaving Bari, Italy, our ship traveled through the night
along the coast of Greece. We navigated along the south of the
island of Levkas then entered the Strait of Kefallinia.
The ship then passed through the narrow channel that divides
the islands of Kefallinia and Ithica. We then proceeded
south to Katakolon viewing the island of Zakinthos on the
starboard side of the ship.
See map below.
Map of the
Peloponnisos Peninsula showing the location of Katakolon,
Pirgos and Olympia.
Katakolon
We pulled into the small port of Katakolon on the Peloponnisos
Peninsula of Greece at about 10:30 am on October 26, 2005.
This is a small port with few buildings. We then
disembarked the ship to catch our bus to Olympia. The
bus passed through Pirgos on the way to Olympia.
Olympia
The Olympic games originated in this lush forested area.
