We arrived in the afternoon so we only had a few hours of
daylight left. Our plan was to visit the Plazza San
Marco first. We had read about the aqua alta (high
waters - periodic flooding that happens during fall and winter
months) and decided to go there first, incase there was
flooding later during our visit. After the ordeal of getting
to our hotel we unpacked, sent e-mails to our loved ones, and
bathed. With our jet lag temporarily washed away, we
ventured out into Venice and headed for the nearest vaporato
station to go to Plazza San Marco. The Ferrovia station
is located nearest to our hotel.

On our return trip from Plazza San Marco we relaxed and took
in the night view of the Grand Canal.
We recommend
seeing the canal at least once during the evening hours.

Plazza San Marco - The plazza is a large
open area surrounding by a variety of buildings that
house
museums, a palace, shops, and restaurants. We arrived
too late to visit any of the
museums so we wondered around and
took pictures. We later visited a restaurant north
of
the plazza and wondering back through the plazza in the
evening.
A note about the restaurant we visited this evening.
When ordering fish, check to see
if you are ordering a fish dish or an entire fish.
Stephanie thought she was ordering
a fish dish and she was served a huge fish, that would have
fed at least two people or more.
At a whopping price of 38 Euros!
