Hurley Ray Markley, of Diana, Webster County, died Friday in the Webster County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He is survived by three sons, Harold, of Canton, Ohio; Earl and William, of Oklahoma City; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Groves, of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Betty White, of Newark, Ohio; Mrs. John Cochran, of Cowen; Mrs. Janet Cool, of Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Ruth Tanner, of Elyria, Ohio; two half brothers, Elbert Markley, of Wilsonburg; Leonard Markley, of Ohio; two half sisters, Mrs. Mary Ethel Smith and Mrs. Wilma Gower, of Wilsonburg; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be held held in the Big Run Union Mission Church.

Burial will be in the Hall Cemetery at Guardian.

The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time by the Dodd and Hurt Funeral Home.

Troy Groves, 74, passed away Oct 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Troy was born Oct 2, 1944 in Granite, OK, to Troy and Dorothy Groves. His family moved to OKC when he was very young. He graduated from Capitol Hill high school in 1962.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline May Williams on November 17, 1962, and they remained married for nearly 56 years. Shortly after they wed he went off to boot camp for the Air National Guard and served 6 years.
After his time in the service he worked at Tinker Field as an electronic engineer and attended OU at the same time working towards a degree in electronics.

Troy and Jackie were blessed with two sons, Tim and Tracy. Troy was a hard worker and always did his best to support his family. In 1971 he started his own company, Electronic Services Unlimited, for which he successfully operated until his death. Troy had his pilot’s license and he owned a Grumman Tiger airplane. On occasion, he flew his family around to different destinations for family trips. Troy also loved sports cars and owned a number of them over the years. Troy and Jackie enjoyed taking their sports cars for road trips and made lasting memories.

Troy and Jackie were huge Neil Diamond fans and took the family to a number of Neil Diamond concerts, even sneaking on the stage claiming to be a photographer on one occasion. Troy had many hobbies and pastimes but his family was the most important to him. His family will miss him deeply.

Troy was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Troy Groves. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Jackie; his mother Dorothy; son, Tim & his wife Kerri; son Tracy & his wife Tonya; Troy was fortunate enough to have four beautiful granddaughters, Haley, Taylor, Tori & Sami. They lovingly called him Pappy. He always called them his number one’s, but what he didn’t know was that he was their number one. Troy is also survived by his brothers, Doyle Groves & his wife Belinda, David & his wife Susan.

Betty Lou White . Private services for Mrs. Betty Lou White, 61, of Newark, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery.

Mrs. White died Thursday afternoon at her home. She was born Oct. 15, 1928 in Clarksburg, W.Va., to the late Hurley Ray Markley and Rosa Jane (Hall) Markley. Mrs. White retired in 1978 from Fyre-pel Products.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Michael (Beverly) Gilbert of Newark; four sisters: Mrs. Troy (Dorothy) Groves of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Eugene (Joan) Cochran of Elkins, W.Va., Mrs. Jimmie (Janet) Cool of Canton and Mrs. Paul (Ruth) Tanner of Elyria, Ohio; three brothers, Harold White of Oregon, Ohio, Earl White and William White, both of Oklahoma City, Okla., two grandsons, nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by a brother.

BARBARA "JOAN" MARKLEY COCHRAN, age 81 years, a resident of Beverly, WV departed this life Tuesday evening, November 22, 2011 at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, WV surrounded by her family following an extended illness.

She was born Friday, September 19, 1930 at Wolfe Summit, WV a daughter of the late Hurley Ray and Rosa Jane Hall Markley. On September 12, 1947 at Lick Run, Webster County, WV she was married to Clinton Eugene Cochran, who preceded her in death November 11, 1995.

Surviving are two sons, Mark Cochran, Beverly; Carl Cochran, Warrenton, MO; four daughters, Charlotte Payne and late husband Wayne, O'Fallon, MO; Jeannie Collett and husband Dick, Dailey; Pamela Deem and husband Bill, Clarksburg; and Barbara Jane "Barbie" Cochran, Parkersburg; two sisters, Dorothy Groves, Oklahoma City, OK; Ruth Tanner, Clearwater, FL; two brothers, Harold "Bud" Markley, Oregon, OH; Bill Markley, Mustang, OK;

seven grandchildren, Michael Payne, O'Fallon, MO; Gene Payne, Wright City, MO; Christopher Heflin, Beverly; Brandy Williams, Coalton; Angie Knight, Doddridge Co; Billy Deem, Stonewood; and Matthew Cochran, Norton; seven great grandchildren, Cassidy Payne, Wright City, MO; Cameron Tyre, Huttonsville; Miranda Lazorick, Shinnston; Brennon Heflin, Beverly; Abby Williams, Coalton; Colton Shingleton, Shinnston; and Cody Dodd, Reynoldsville and one great great grandchild, Michael "Tre`" Lazorick, Shinnston.

Preceding her in death are two sisters, Betty White and Janet Cool and one brother, Earl "Sonny" Markley.

She attended the schools of Webster County, and was a homemaker. Joan was a lifelong seamstress and quilter. She collected Fenton Glass with her daughters for years. She loved to cook for her family and friends. If you left Joan's home hungry it was your own fault. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Cochran's' request for cremation was honored. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date with interment at the Big Run Cemetery at Diana, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Randolph County Unit, in care of Jennifer Bennett, 47 Turkey Run Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Michael “Mike” Wayne Payne, 49, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born Dec. 29, 1967, in Clarksburg’s U.P. Hospital, the son of Wayne and Charlotte Cochran Payne.

He was a 1986 graduate of LaBrae High School and Trumbull County Joint Vocational School.

Mike was a mechanic and a welder. Friends and co-workers said they had never seen a better welder than Michael.

He liked to work on vintage cars and loved to ride his Harley. He also enjoyed going to auctions with his mom and dad and buying and selling at the flea markets with his mom. Mike also liked to fish and hunt.
He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Payne of O’Fallon, Mo.; his brother, Gene (Brenda) Payne of Wright City, Mo., and their children, Cassidy Payne of O’Fallon, Mo.; Darren Murray and his wife April of Warrenton, Mo.; and their children, Eva, Nolan, Keeghan, and Michelle of Boardman; his ex-wife, Lisa Budnik of Warren; as well as aunts and uncles, Carl and Edna Rose Payne, Kenneth Payne, and Harold Payne, all of Mannington, W.Va., Lloyd Payne and Jane Payne Palmer, both of Warren, Jeannie and Dick Collett of Dailey, W.Va., Pam and Bill Deem of Clarksburg, W.Va., Mark Cochran of Beverly, W.Va., Carl Cochran of Warrenton, Mo., and Barbie Cochran of Belpre.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Payne; and his grandparents, John and Nola Good Payne and Eugene and Joan Markley Cochran.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, W.Va. A funeral service will be noon Saturday, March 25, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum.

Cameron Kenneth Tyre, age 22 years, a resident of Coalton, West Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, October 10, 2013 on Rich Mountain (in Randolph County, West Virginia near Elkins and Beverly). He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born Saturday, February 16, 1991 at Statesville, North Carolina, a son of Kenneth Lee Tyre of Huttonsville, West Virgina and Brandy Heflin Williams and husband Merle of Coalton. He had never married.

Surviving are one sister, Abbigale Yvonne Williams, of Coalton; his maternal grandparents, Dick and Jeannie Collett, of Dailey; his paternal grandparents, Albert K. and Jo Ellen Tyre, of Huttonsville; his step grandmother, Margaret Williams, of Elkins;
one uncle, Chris Heflin and wife Penny, of Beverly; one aunt, Kim Hayes and husband Dale, of Midlothian, VA; several cousins and many friends.

He attended Elkins High School and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the Class of 2009, where he was a member of the FFA. He received his CDL license and hazmat endorsement from the Fred W. Eberle Technical Center in 2011. He was passionate about and enjoyed driving truck having worked previously for Key Energy and more recently Buccaneer Enterprises at Buckhannon. He was an avid outdoorsman.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Monday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 1:30 PM. Pastor Frank Stanley will officiate and entombment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Gilman, West Virginia.

Carl Vaughn Cochran, of Warrenton, MO., passed away March 9, 2019, due to a car accident.

Carl was born April 15, 1962 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, at St. Joseph Hospital, to the late Eugene and Joan Markley Cochran. He is survived by his dog Gator, four sisters; Charlotte Payne of O'Fallon, MO., Jeannie (husband Dick Collett) of Dailey, WV., Pam (husband Bill Deem) of Clarkburg, WV., Barbie Cochran of Belpre, Ohio, one brother; Mark Cochran of Beverly, WV.
Carl graduated from Elkins High School in Elkins, WV., in 1980. He went to work for SS Joe Burford Coal Co. In 1991, he went to work for Adrian Steel. He worked at three of their plants; Adsco in Lordstown, Ohio, Adrian Equipment in Flint, MI., and Adrian Steel of Missouri, till present time, as the shop foreman. Carl loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and digging ginsing and ramps. He liked going to flea markets with his brother and sisters. Carl will be remembered as a loving, trusted and loyal brother, uncle and great uncle.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton, MO. The memorial service will begin at 6:00 PM, also at the funeral home. A second memorial service will be held in Elkins, WV on Memorial Day Weekend.

Janet M. Cool Age 73, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday April 28, 2010 in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born July 1, 1936 in Guardian, WV to the late Hurley and Rosa (Hall) Markley. Janet was a Dalton resident for the past 8 years prior to which she had resided in Canton. She retired from The Timken Company in 1995 after 30 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie L. Cool Sr. on March 11, 2010 to whom she was married 57 wonderful years; one son-in-law, Richard Hines; one sister, Betty White; two brothers, Earl and Hurley Markley.

She is survived by seven children, Patty (William) Moose, Linda (Lou) Mikunda, Jackie (Dave) DiCato, Debbie (Eric) Neff, Terri Angelo, Susie Archer, Jimmie (Terri) Cool Jr.;
17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold "Bud" (Sharon) Markley, William "Bill" (Carla) Markley; three sisters, Dorothy Groves, Joanne Cochran, Ruth (Paul) Tanner.

Mom truly was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who was so loved and will be greatly missed. She was a very strong caring woman who was very devoted to her family. She enjoyed sewing and making items for her family, We Love You Mom. Our heartfelt and many thanks to her special doctor, Dr. Shruti Trehan.

Friends may call Saturday May 1, 2010 from 5-7pm in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. and Sunday 5-7pm in the Dodd and Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs, WV. Susan Marie Cool - Age 55, of Canton, passed away February 26, 2018, following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 28, 1962, to the late Jimmie and Janet (Markley) Cool.

She is survived by two daughters, Tera and Hillary Hines; grandson, Jorden Leake; five sisters: Patty (Bill) Moose, Linda Mikunda, Jackie (Dave) DiCato, Debbie (Eric) Neff and Terri Angelo; one brother, Jimmie (Terri) Cool Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Susan is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hines; brothers-in-law, Lou Mikunda Jr. and Timothy Hines; sister-in-law, Frankie Cochran. Susie was an avid crafter and collector. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, time with family and friends. She was loved by all and will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Burial will be in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends and family will be received one hour before services on Thursday (12-1 p.m.). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses. Harold “Ray” Markley Jr. of Oregon, OH passed away at his home in Wildwood, Florida on April 30, 2019 surrounded by his family and friends.

Ray graduated from Clay High School in 1979. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army for 13 years as a Staff Sergeant. After the service he was employed at CSX Railroad for over 20 years where he served as a Foreman and Union Stewart; he was also employed as an Iron Worker at Local 55 for over 10 years. He was an avid Harley Davidson Rider and enjoyed riding alongside his brother Mitch.

He is remembered by his wife Rose Markley, his father Harold R. Markley Sr., his “Mom” Sharon Markley, his children, Alyssa Markley, Olivia Markley (Clint), Harold R. Markley III (Alyssa), Leah Spencer (Jake) and “Grumpy Grampy” to eight grandchildren, lifelong friend and ex-wife Vicki Markley, sister Tina Markley Walsh (Trevor), mother Nelle Bice, stepsister Jennifer Lee (David), stepbrother Mike Bice and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Mitchell L. Markley Sr.

On January 4th, 2018, Mitchell L. Markley Sr. passed away at the age of 53 in Wildwood, Fla. He was the son of Harold Markley Sr., and Nellie Bice, the brother of Ray Markley, Mike Bice and Jennifer Lee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kelly (Fales) Markley. His legacy lives on in his three children, Michelle, Missy and Mitch Jr., as well as six grandchildren, Davey, Dominic, Lilly, J.J., Lilah and Lexi.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marie Markley; daughters, Debbie McCreight of Norman, OK, Jamelle Hodges of Newcastle, OK, Kathy Taylor of Dallas, TX, and Karen Shelby of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Calista and Courtney McCreight, Lauren and Erik Hodges, Jennifer Taylor and Alexis and Samantha Gulley; brothers, Harold Markley of Toledo, Ohio and Bill Markley of Mustang, OK; sisters, Dorothy Groves of OKC, Joann Cochran of Elkins, West Virginia, Janet Cool of Safety Harbor, FL and Ruth Tanner of Clearwater, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Hurley Markley and his sister, Betty White. Earl moved to Oklahoma City in 1959 and was a graduate of Capital Hill High School. He was employed by International Environmental Corporation as Plant Manager of manufacturing for the last 35 years. When he wasn't working or spending time with his family,

Earl loved nothing more than to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, or caring for his lawn. He was an incredible man who touched many lives. He will forever be in our hearts and memories.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Heart Association. Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Mayridge Baptist Church, 4617 S. May, Okla. City. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
