Helen Isabel Yardley, 81, of
Mason City died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
She was born June 20, 1925, in Pennsylvania Township, the
daughter of Lee Roy and Nellie Marie Hardin Kittle. She
married Kenneth Yardley in 1950 in Mason City; he died in
1995.
Mrs. Yardley graduated from Easton High School. She worked
for Lee Brothers, Kairos and the state of Illinois in Mason
City. She also owned and operated the Book Nook in Mason
City. She was a member of Mason City Assembly of God and
Mason City Women's Club.
Survivors: niece, Sandi (husband, Ken) Cunningham of Mason
City; nephew, Larry (wife, Linda) Rigdon of Normal; and four
great-nephews. |

Freewill Baptist Church in Arnold, Mo., by Pastor
Jim Bolden.
The bride is the daughter of Stan and Jamie Roach of
Imperial, Mo. The groom is the son of Ken and Sandi
Cunningham of Mason City.
Serving as matron of honor was Heather Prusinowski.
Bridesmaids were Laura Maxwell and Melinda Shoults.
Flower girl was Emma Prusinowski. |
Best men were Bryce Cunningham
and Spencer Cunningham. Ring bearer was Ethan Prusinowski.
Ushers were Frank Prusinowski and Kent Starr.
A reception was held at Windows on Washington in St. Louis.
The bride is a 1998 graduate of Fox High School and a 2002
graduate of Barnes College of Nursing at the University of
Missouri in St. Louis. She is employed by Healthways. The
groom is a 2000 graduate of Illini Central High School, a
2005 graduate of University of Illinois
Springfield and a 2008 graduate of Missouri Baptist
University with a master’s in counseling.
He is employed by the Windsor School District.

Mr. David Rodney Minton, age 77,
of Louisville, KY, returned to his Heavenly Father
on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
He was born on Friday, August 11, 1944 in
Louisville, KY to the late Edward and Francis
Minton. He was a member of Blue Lick Memorial Union
Missionary Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife,
Sharon Minton; his son, Aaron David Minton; his
siblings, Carolyn Jones, James Minton and Constance
Paterson; along with a host of other family members
and friends. |
Funeral service will be
conducted at 12pm Saturday, May 7, 2022 in the chapel of
Blue Lick Memorial Union Missionary Baptist Church, with
burial to follow at Penn Run Cemetery. Friends may pay their
respects on Friday from 4pm until 8pm at the funeral home
and on Saturday 11am until the time of his service at 12 pm
at the church. |

On
January 2, 2018, at 85 years old, Thomas Allen
Kittle, of Woodland Park, Colorado, went home to be
with the Lord.
Tom was born on May 1, 1932 in Lebanon, Kentucky to
the parents of James and Carrie Kittle.
Tom served in the U.S. Navy, where he met and
married Shirley Robinson on June 16, 1951. Shirley
was his best friend and the love of his life. After
serving in the military, Tom earned his electronics
degree at San Diego State University and began his
35-year career with IBM. |
Throughout life, Tom was an
active leader in his church as a deacon, in choir and lay
preacher. Tom also served as a reserve officer with the Los
Angeles Sheriff's Dept., Captain of the Boulder County
Sheriff's Reserve, was a volunteer with the Woodland Park
Police, and as a Bailiff in Teller County Teen Court.
Tom headed up the Woodland Park school's crossing guard
program and provided security for school. He was lovingly
known as "Mr. Skittles" by the kids.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years who passed
away on January 1, 2008. He is survived by their four
children: Thomas Kittle, David Kittle, Cheryl Tolson, and
Lora Ehrichs, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at High View
Baptist Church on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1 p.m. |

Doris
Ann Vetter, 93, of Fishers, formerly of Columbus,
Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at
Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was
born on December 28, 1929 to Sylvester and Susie
(Simpson) Kreinbrink in Louisville, Kentucky.
Doris worked with her husband in their business,
Vetter's Magnavox in Columbus. She was a member of
Zonta International and Epsilon Sigma Alpha
Sorority. Doris enjoyed reading and spending time at
the pool with family and friends. She was active in
the Bartholomew County Senior Center and collected
angel figurines. Most of all, she loved her family
and enjoyed spending time with her children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. |
Doris is survived by her
children, Jeanette Gumbel, Donna Boeshe, Frank (Susan)
Vetter III, and Pam (Karl) Friedline, brother, Don (JoAnn)
Kreinbrink; 11 grandchildren, Mathew, Megan, Jenny (Rik),
Jason (Laura), Christina, Laura (Larry), Brian, David
(Courtney), Scott (Melissa), Heather (Mike), and Sara
(John); 14 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alyssa, Alyssa,
Grayson, Brittney, Joe, Coleman, Lucy, Jake, Tyler, Caleb,
James, Mia, and Layla; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Avery
and Milo; and her son-in-law, Jim (JoAnna) Gatten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Frank Vetter Jr.; daughter, Sandy Gatten; sister,
Shirley Graff; great-grandson, Zackary; and sons-in-law, Tom
Gumbel and Ralph Boesche.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with services at
5:00 pm, on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Randall & Roberts
Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers. Rev.
Stanley R. Sutton will officiate. Burial will be held at
11:00 am on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Garland Brook
Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana.

Jeanette Ann Gumbel of Indianapolis, Indiana passed
away March 30, 2025 at Bloom at Willow surrounded by
loving and caring hands. She was born on February
14, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky to Frank and Doris
Ann (Krienbrink) Vetter.
Jeanette graduated from Columbus High School in
1967. She went on to earn a Bachelors in Special
Education from Ball State University where she met
her husband. She later earned a Masters in Special
Education from Butler University.
Jeanette married Thomas (Tom) Gumbel on August 7,
1971. The two were married until Tom’s death on
April 19, 2008. |
Together they raised two
children Matthew and Megan. Together they created a
welcoming home. The family were proud residents of Lawrence
Township for over 21 years.
Jeanette started her teaching career with Indianapolis
Public Schools. She then became a stay-at-home mom to focus
on raising her children and those of others. She returned to
teaching at Lawrence North High School as a Special Educator
retiring in 2016 after nearly 30 years. Teaching was her
true passion. She believed all students had potential. She
never stopped at no; frequently creating curriculum and
programs so each student could succeed.
Jeanette epitomized a Valentine’s birthday by living a life
full of love. All of her actions were rooted in heart. She
loved her family and friends with all of her heart. She
shared this same love with her fur babies. She took her duty
as dog mom and dog grammy seriously; always ensuring there
were toys and snacks.
She was a hippie at heart often appearing in tie dye. She
loved music; especially the Beatles. She enjoyed watching
sports. The beach was her happy place where she found peace
in watching the waves crash. She also simply loved being
with people. She gained joy through seeing others experience
joy. In her final days, she reminded us that we always had
fun. We challenge each of you to find the joy and fun in the
simplicity of each day.
Jeanette leaves behind a legacy. Remaining to ensure this
legacy lives on are her children Matthew Gumbel and Megan
Gumbel; her brother Frank Vetter Jr (Sue); sisters Donna
Boesche and Pam Friedline (Karl); lifelong friends Carla
Mathison and Kay Green; several nieces and nephews and
endless friends and former students.
Preceding Jeanette in death were her husband Thomas Gumbel;
parents Frank Sr and Doris Ann Vetter; in-laws John and
Loretta Gumbel; sister Sandra Gatten; brother-in-law Ralph
Boesche; second daughter Nancy Green and many loving fur
babies.
Please join us to rejoice and celebrate Jeanette’s life.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday,
April 3, 2025 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685
Westfield Road, in Noblesville. An additional visitation
will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with funeral
services at 11:00 am, on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the
funeral home. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in
Noblesville. We encourage you to honor Jeanette by wearing
your favorite tie dye or sports team gear.
The family would like to express gratitude to the teams at
Bloom at North Willow and St Croix Hospice for their

becomes involved with BOTH Robert Nealy Osborne and Robert
Lynn Sims. I am unable to find a marriage record with
either, for Shirley. Based on the birth records in KY
for all of the kids, Shirley spent a few years with each man
back-and-forth between 1956 - 1967.
Of note about both Roberts...they both had other marriages
or relationships and had additional children from those
unions.
In 1974, when Robert Osborne dies, Shirley is mentioned in
his obituary as his wife along with all of the children
named both Osborne and Sims.
In 1996, when Robert Sims passes away, Shirley is mentioned
in his obituary as his wife along with all of the Osborne
and Sims children. It is unclear if the Shirley
mentioned in this obit is Shirley Vetter or Shirley Reddicks.
I suspect Shirley Reddicks because Shirley Vetter kept her
last name of Osborne as seen in her daughter Valerie's
obituary in 2021.

Because all of the children from all of the Roberts and

Osborne. The two last names are interchanged in the
historical records, as if they can't remember (or care) what
they used before. For instance one birth record for
Barbara uses maiden name Sims and another uses Osborne as
her maiden name. |

Valerie Hayes, 59, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 in Louisville,
Kentucky.
She was born on August 3, 1962 in Louisville,
Kentucky. Family was very important to Valerie, and she
loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Being a good mother and Nana was the most important thing to
her.
Valerie was a “country lady” at heart. She enjoyed
sipping on her sweet tea, having a smoke, listening to
Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn, and being outside to just sit
back and take it all in. Valerie had an infectious laugh and
was always very entertaining, especially when she started
talking her country lingo. She will be greatly missed by all
who knew and loved her.
Valerie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy E.
Hayes; and her father, Robert Osborne.
Left to cherish her memory, Valerie leaves behind 2
children, Shirley Hayes and Brandon Hayes; her mother,
Shirley Osborne; 7 siblings, Debbie Rumbaugh (Terry), Tony
Osborne (Betty Lou), Barbara Hutcherson, Jeffery Sims
(Karen), Stanley Osborne, Robert Osborne (Kelly), and Terry
Parrish (Wendell); 2 grandchildren, Aiden Hayes and Austin
Hayes; best friend, Jackie Clark (Bryan); and a host of
extended family and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Valerie Hayes will be held
Monday, December 20, 2021 at 12 PM at Legacy Funeral Center-Nunnelley
Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation
will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 4 PM to 7 PM at
the funeral home. Burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery will
follow the service on Monday. |

James Edmund Pope, 67 of
Chuckatuck went to be with the Lord at his residence with
his family by his side. Affectionately known as “POP POP”.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Pamela Elliott Pope.
He was the son of the late Leroy Pope Jr. and Mary Alice
Woodward Pope. He is survived by his daughters Rhonda Pope
Nelson (Barrett) and Mary Pope, his son James William Pope
(Ashby), three grandchildren Makala, Gracie and A.J. His
brothers Leroy Pope III (Lynn) and Will Pope (Mary Lou). His
sister in law Kathy Moss and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Living Waters Christian Fellowship and
the Men’s Fellowship also he was past member of the
Chuckatuck Ruritan Club. He had most recently worked as a
salesman at Lowes of Suffolk and had previously retired from
Philip Morris.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday March, 25 at 11
am at Little’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Smithfield with burial to follow in Oakland Christian Church
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on
Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family
request donations to Living Waters Christian Fellowship,
2700 Gum Road, Chesapeake, Va 23321. Condolences may be

Linda Rae Hockenbury Kennedy,
50, died peacefully at home in Deltaville, Va. on September
11, 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. and Evy
S. Hockenbury.
She is survived by her husband, James G. Kennedy Sr.;
sister, Lori Ann Saxon; nephew, Steven MacMillan of
Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Dennis Hockenbury of Houston,
Texas. Survivors also include aunts, Margaret Fleming, Helen
Conyers, Dorothy Lind; and her uncle, C.D. "Enos" Slaughter,
as well as his wife, Brenda, all of Richmond. She also
leaves behind her furry friends, Gracie, Sammy and Abby.
Linda will be remembered for her outrageous sense of humor
and fun loving spirit. She will live in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American
Cancer Society. Memorial service to be held at a later date. |

Mr.
Ronald Chester Kittle Sr., age 83, of
Shepherdsville, KY, returned to his Heavenly Father
on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
He was born in Louisville, KY on Sunday, October 2,
1938 to the late William Chester and June Maxine
Kittle. He was an Army Veteran and a retired
employee of Louisville Gas & Electric. A member of
Salem Church of Christ. He was also the former
president of North Bullitt Baseball Boosters, where
he was known as “Big Ron”. Along with his parents,
he was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas
Merle Kittle. |
He leaves to cherish his memory
his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Anne Kittle; his children,
Martha Hall (Tom), Ron Kittle Jr. (Michelle), Todd Kittle (Jolena)
and Matt Kittle (Jody); his siblings, Ray Lee Kittle and
Anita Brown; his grandchildren, Bryce, Luke, Blake, Adam,
Braden, Devan, Emmy Jo and Bobbie Ann; along with a host of
other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May
5, 2022 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks
Funeral Home 4895 N. Preston Highway Shepherdsville, burial
to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitations will be
Wednesday 4pm until 8pm and Thursday 10am until time of
service. |

KITTLE, THOMAS M., 61, of
Shepherdsville, passed away Friday, January 14, 2005, at
Baptist Hospital East. He was a member of Highview Baptist
Church and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 40
years, the former Juanita Daugherty; sons, Tony (Paula),
David (Leslie), and William (Michelle); brothers, Ronald C.
and Ray Lee Kittle; a sister, Anita K. Brown; and seven
grandchildren.
Mr. Kittle's funeral will be held at noon
Monday at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601
Taylor Blvd., with burial in Louisville Memorial
Gardens-West. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday.

Karl
Edgar Kohler, 79, of Cheyenne, passed away at his
home on May 1, 2017.
He was born on November 11, 1937 in Louisville,
Kentucky.
Karl entered the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and retired
in 1978. After retirement Karl worked as a mechanic
before returning to the U.S. Air Force as a civilian
employee. Karl enjoyed playing Pinochle with his
friends at the Senior Center and building radio
controlled air planes. He was a member of the
Cheyenne Hill Hoppers AMA club.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob
Kohler and Iona (Kittle) Kohler; brother, Ralph
Kohler; nephew, Karl Kohler; and his long-time
companion, Beverly (Beekman) Morton.

Karl is survived by his
daughter, Melody Morse (William) of Cheyenne; grandson,
Derrick Morse of Rawlins, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Connie
Kohler; and nephews Ralph Kohler, Jr. and Troy LaBarge both
of New York, and nephew, Kevin Kohler of North Carolina.
Funeral Liturgy will be Friday, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church.
Private burial will take place at Fort Logan National
Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in
Karl’s memory to the either the Cheyenne Animal Shelter or
St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. |

Gregory Scott Gavin was
sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday for the brutal
murder of local forest-dweller Karl Kohler at his Peak 9
campsite in May.
Gavin struck a plea deal with the district attorney’s office
agreeing to make a statement revealing the details of the
crime in exchange for a reduced charge and a maximum
sentence of a dozen years in prison.
The 50-year-old local, who also made his home in the forest
prior to his arrest, was quiet and subdued in court
Thursday, taking a moment to control his emotions before
making a short, remorseful statement.
“I didn’t want this to happen,” Gavin said. “I want to say
to the Kohler family and his friends, I’m sorry for what
I’ve done.”
He pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder, heat
of passion in September, after admitting to beating Kohler
to death with a baseball bat when he arrived at Gavin’s
campsite unannounced in the early hours of the morning.
There had reportedly been a history of hostility between
Gavin and Kohler. Witnesses reported altercations between
the two, and Kohler threatening to kill Gavin on at least
one occasion prior to his death, public defender Dale
McPhetres said in court Thursday.
But Kohler’s parents, brothers and friends said they didn’t
believe Kohler had been the aggressor and some railed
against a sentence they said was too light for the crime.
“It is in the most importance sense, there can be no justice
for Karl because nothing the court or the defendant does can
make Karl or those who loved him whole,” Kohler’s brother
Ralph stated in a letter to the court read by District
Attorney Mark Hurlbert. “When I thought Karl’s death was the
result of an argument that got out of hand, I thought that
while 12 years of a person’s life was a significant price,
it seemed like a price that was in no way fair to Karl.”
Some members of Kohler’s family hurled accusations at
prosecutors, implying the plea deal and maximum 12-year
sentence were related to the state’s reluctance to spend
money prosecuting the murder of a homeless man.
“I feel 12 years is little to pay for committing
first-degree murder,” Kohler’s brother Troy LaBerge told the
court. “It does not matter where Karl lived or what his
social status was.”
But Hurlbert said the plea deal was necessary to getting the
real story about what happened between Gavin and Kohler the
night of Kohler’s death. Little was known about the incident
before Gavin made a full statement to Summit County law
enforcement as part of the deal.
“In a plea bargain you have to give something to get
something,” Hurlbert said. “What we were looking for was the
truth. That’s why we made the plea bargain. It had nothing
to do with saving the state money. We were prepared to go to
trial. It had absolutely nothing to do with Karl’s status as
a transient.”
Gavin’s statement has not been released to the public.
Statements made in court indicated the crime may have
occurred after an argument between the two men over money
escalated.
Volunteers participating in town Clean Up Day discovered
Kohler’s body near the Burro Trail Trailhead in May at what
was later determined to be Gavin’s campsite. Gavin was
arrested a few weeks later.
His sentence will include five years probation in addition
to the prison sentence.
Kohler, 45, had lived in Summit County for approximately 10
years, making his permanent home in the woods. Friends
remembered him as intelligent and artistic, but said he had
lived a hard life. |

Thomas Kohler, 19, died Saturday after he was shot
by a friend, Victor Santana, at Kohler’s
Jacksonville home on Liberty Drive, according to
Jacksonville Police Department.
“The investigation revealed that Jacob Kohler … was
shot in his home by a friend, Victor Santana, 20, of
Jacksonville,” police department spokeswoman Beth
Purcell said. “Santana and another individual drove
the victim to Onslow Memorial Hospital while
contacting police. Kohler died at the hospital as a
result of his injuries.”
Sgt. Mark Ketchum — a supervisor in the agency’s
Investigative Services Division — said they are
currently working with the District Attorney’s
Office to review the details of the shooting.
Kohler’s death left his alma mater, White Oak High
School, reeling in grief this week. |
Kohler’s Facebook page accrued a
long list of memorials from friends and former teammates
shocked by the tragedy.
“You never know what tomorrow brings,” one woman wrote.
“Rest easy Jacob. You will be missed by so many people,”
wrote another.
Kohler, a former offensive lineman with jersey 74, also
volunteered to provide pre-game devotions — prayer and
motivational tales — for White Oak junior varsity football
players, Head Football Coach Eric Leary recalled.
“He was a very selfless young man. I am very proud of him
for that,” Leary said. “He put himself before others and he
knew how to talk to an adult.”
Kohler loved to be part of the team and was a member of
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he added.
The 2015 White Oak High School graduate will be remembered
during a funeral Friday afternoon. The memorial service will
be 6 p.m. Friday at Grants Creek Missionary Baptist Church
at 1401 Old 30 Road in Maysville, according to Kahlert
Funerals and Cremations. No visitation is planned.
The funeral home is “expecting a very big crowd,” a staff
member there told The Daily News.
Although details are sparse about the shooting, Onslow
Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Amy Sousa said the hospital
had a brief lockdown Saturday night after the shooting was
confirmed to be an isolated act.
“We did go on lockdown, but it was a very brief period of
time,” Sousa said. “All I can say is that (Kohler) did come
to the hospital on Saturday and he did pass away.”

Police are investigating the weekend death of a Jacksonville
man who died after being shot by a friend.
Jacob Kohler, 19, of Liberty Drive was shot Saturday in his
home by a friend, Victor Santana, 20, of Jacksonville.
Santana and another person drove Kohler to Onslow Memorial
Hospital, where he died. Santana and the other person
contacted police, who responded to the shooting report at
8:37 p.m. Saturday.
“We are working with the District Attorney’s Office to
review the details of this investigation” said Sgt. Mark
Ketchum, a supervisor in JPD’s Investigative Services
