In most of the census records for Mattie,
she claims she was born in Indiana. Father Edwin made furniture
and the family was in Columbus their whole lives. Even if they did
travel to Indiana by train or horse buggy, I do not see a pregnant Ellen
with an infant (William C) making this trip in 1875. In the 1880
Census, Ohio was marked as state of birth for Martha. From 1900
on, it says Indiana. Martha's marriage license says Columbus, OH
as place of birth. In 1940 Martha was the one reporting the
information. She gave Ohio has her place of birth. |
