CHARLES W. AUVIL JR. Mr. Charles W. Auvil Jr., 71, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Friday, June 9, 2006, at his home. He was born in Hambleton, W.Va., and had lived in Bay County since 1995.

Mr. Auvil retired as a chief master sergeant after 30 years of service in the U. S. Air Force and the Navy. He was an avid sportsman and especially loved baseball, following the Cincinnati Reds for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Auvil is survived by his wife, Doris J. Auvil of Panama City; two sons, John A. Auvil of Miami, Fla., and Charles W. Auvil III and his wife Mary of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, John Auvil of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Thomas Auvil of Panama City; and a sister, Nancy Sanders of Lynn Haven.

Thomas Burton “Jack” Griffith, 84, a former resident of Hambleton, and more recently a resident of Memorial Drive, Parsons, where he had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Tina Griffith, departed this life Monday morning, Jan. 27, 2003, at home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to pneumonia.

He was born May 5, 1918, at Whitmer, a son of the late Roy Lester Griffith and Mary Virginia Kerns Griffith.
During 1959, in Georgia, he was married to Opal Mae Snyder, who preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1965.
Surviving are two sons, James Daniel Griffith and wife, Tina, Parsons, and Michael Anthony Griffith and wife, Mary, Hambleton; one daughter, Ginger Bennett, Ohio; five grandchildren, James D. Griffith Jr., Joshua S. Griffith, both of Parsons, Sarah A. Griffith, Eric M. Griffith, both of Hambleton, and Marshall Summerville, Ohio.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Faye Griffith; three brothers, Joseph, Charles “Bud” and Phil Griffith; and one sister, Genevieve Fick.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater, and was awarded the American Defense Ribbon and the Bronze Star. He worked for Dupont Chemical Co. of Charleston, the Kingsford Charcoal Co. of Parsons, the Kelly Foundry at Zanesville, Ohio, and was co-owner of the former Twinkle Twin Taxi of Parsons and the Parsons Nursery. He attended the Church of Christ at Bretz. He was a lifetime member of the former Garnett Post American Legion and a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday at 11 a.m. The H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will present the American flag. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Thomas Burton “Jack” Griffith. From 28 Jan 2003.

Obituary for Charles David "Charlie" Griffith
CHARLES DAVID "CHARLIE" GRIFFITH, 62, a former resident of Hambleton, and a resident of Edgewood Manor of Lucasville, Ohio, departed this life Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in the Southern Ohio Medical Center at Portsmouth, Ohio. He had been in declining health for several years.

He was born Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1945, at Parsons, a son of the late Phill Hansil Griffith and Madeline Lucy Robinson Griffith. He had never married.

He is survived by one brother, John Hansil Griffith of Elkins; two sisters, Janice Rae Jones and husband, Leon, of Baltimore, Md., and Phyllis Elaine Lipscomb and husband, Michael, of Hambleton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Lester Griffith.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1963. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of Lambert's Chevrolet in Parsons and Kingsford Charcoal Co. of Parsons. He was a member of the Hambleton Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr and Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral parlor on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery Hendricks, where H.W. Daniels American Legion Post 29 and the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites. Elmer Leon Jones, 66, departed this life Nov. 15. His death was attributed to heart failure.

He was the son of the late Ray and Pauline Jones.

He leaves behind his wife Janice Griffith Jones; three children Susan Brooks, Phillip "Shawn" Jones and Michael Jones; six grandchildren Shoshanna, Kira, Vinny, Phillip, Lance, and Rayna; two brothers Walter Jones and Allen Jones; two sisters Janice Arnold and Ruth Tacy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one infant son Elmer Jones Jr.

He served his country in Vietnam as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The cremated remains will be interred at the Parsons Cemetery at a later date.

PHYLLIS ELAINE GRIFFITH LIPSCOMB, age 66 years, a resident of Hambleton, WV departed this life Wednesday morning, December 16, 2015 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV, with her family at her side and where she had been a patient for the past three weeks.

She was born Thursday, February 17, 1949 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late Phil Hansil and Madeline Lucy Robinson Griffith. On July 10, 1992 at Oakland, MD, she was married to Michael Edward Lipscomb, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffery Lynn Griffith and wife Kim of Wheeling, WV, Christopher Scott "Dudley" Earnest of Hambleton; one daughter, Pamela Diane Kerr and husband William "Buck" of Carrollton, TX; one brother, John Hansil Griffith of Elkins;
eight grandchildren, Holli, Aaron, Nathaniel, Mason, Gabrielle, Charli, Donald and Linsie; four great grandchildren, Jayden, Olivia, Jacob, and Layla; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Roy Lester Griffith and Charles David "Charlie" Griffith; and one sister, Janice Rae "Sue" Jones.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1967. She was a graduate of the Clarksburg Beauty Academy and was a hairdresser for many years, owning and operating her own shop in Philippi. She was a former home health care worker, employed at the Tucker County Senior Center for seventeen years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God at Rosendorf. Phyllis was always doing things for others and she loved children. She enjoyed camping, vacations and yard sales.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 1 PM. Pastor Adam Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks, WV.

JOHN HANSIL GRIFFITH, age 64 years, a native of Tucker County, and more recently a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life Friday afternoon, January 22, 2016 at Nella's Inc. at Crystal Springs, Elkins, WV.

He was born Monday, August 13, 1951 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Phil Hansil and Madeline Lucy Robinson Griffith.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Lester Griffith and Charles David "Charlie" Griffith; and two sisters, Janice Rae "Sue" Jones and Phyllis Elaine Lipscomb.

He attended the Hamrick School and Parsons High School. He was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Company. He enjoyed listening to music and singing.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 12:30 PM. The Reverend Dave Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks, WV.

ELLEN NELSON GRIFFITH LAWSON, age 80 years, a former resident of Hambleton, and a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Saturday evening, January 27, 2007 at the home.

She was born June 5, 1925 at Whitmer, a daughter of the late Delmar and Patsy Elza Nelson. She was twice married, first to Charles R. Griffith, who preceded her in death April of 1959 and then she married James Lawson, who preceded her in death October of 2006.

Surviving are two daughters; Mary Ellen Mauldin and husband Mack of Hendricks and Sharon Griffith of Morgantown, two brothers; Jason Kimber Nelson and wife Pearl Ann of Thomas, Delmar "Junior" Nelson and wife Terry of Akron, Oh., one sister; Patricia Yokum of New Creek, four grandchildren; Ben F. "Buddy" Long and wife Brenda of Holly Meadows, Christy Murray and husband Kevin of Morgantown, Sue Ellen Shrout of Nashville and Kim Snyder and husband James of Parsons and five great grandchildren; Adam Lambruno and Emma Snyder, both of Parsons, Evin Murray of Morgantown, Stephanie Long and Ben F. "Benny" Long, both of Holly Meadows.

Preceding her in death are one infant son; James Daniel Griffith, four brothers; Blake Nelson, Robert Eugene Nelson, Harold Arthur Nelson and James Russell Nelson.

She attended the schools of Whitmer, the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of Charleston High School at Charleston, WV., with the Class of 1955. She attended Morris Harvey College at Charleston. She retired from the Kroger Company after twenty five years of service. She was owner and operator of a pet grooming business while living at Houston, Tx., and she was a real estate agent while a resident of Georgia. She loved to make crafts and was a noted cook. She was a Methodist.

A life celebration for Mrs. Lawson will be held at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 2 PM. The Reverend J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer.

Sharon Kaye Griffith, 72, of Morgantown formerly of Parsons, WV, died Monday, December 16, 2019, at her home. Sharon was born January 25, 1946, in Parsons, a daughter to Charles and Ellen Nelson Griffith.

Sharon retired from nursing, most recently working for the Tucker County Hospital.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Christy Murray & husband Kevin of Morgantown; son Benjamin Long, IV & wife Brenda; sister Mary Ellen Mauldin all of Parsons; three grandchildren; one great-grandson & her beautiful tropical colored sun conure, Carlos.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.

Honoring Sharon’s wishes cremation was arranged by the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home of
