  1905 - Phoebe Elizabeth Kelley passes away on Nov 9, 1905???....according to Find A Grave, which is notorious for having undocumented and sometimes fictional information.  Find A Grave has Phoebe in Elkins Memorial Gardens.  This is odd.  After researching 100's in this Phillips family around this era, the go-to cemetery is Phillips Cemetery in Jimtown.  No one used Elkins Memorial Gardens until decades later. 

Also, where did they get the date??  Yes, Phoebe's last son Winfield was born on this date.  This would mean she probably died during child birth or right after. Where is the documentation for all of this???  There is no death record in the Randolph Co., WV death records (I looked at the actual documents).  There is no grave marker.  There is no family bible with this information.  No documented bio or oral interview with family members.  If someone has documented proof for Phoebe's exact death date and burial location, please contact me.

  1954 - Paul Kelley passes away??.  As with Phoebe's death, no documentation.  No one on Ancestry knows when Paul died.  All everyone has in their trees is the year 1954.  No death record, no grave marker, no obit.  Nothing to prove he died in 1954.

  1940 - Census - Hollie is under the last name of Fury.  This is not correct but makes sense if you know the history of Robert Guy Reynolds.  Beginning around the time of the WWI registration, Robert went by the name of Guy R Fury and lived as a boarder in the household of James Robert Fury, 1920, 1930 and 1940.  Even though Robert's parents were very much alive, it appears that Robert Guy Reynolds became some type of adopted son.  The last name of Robert and Hollie were either assumed to be Fury by the census taker or it was reported that way.  When Robert married Hollie in 1936, he used his birth last name of Reynolds.

Also on this Census, Hollie's brother Cawn and sister Maude are living next door.

Donald L. Mosteller, 77 passed away Wednesday October 23, 2013 at Golden Living Center, Riverside, St. Albans.

He is survived by his daughter, Oneida “Sissy” Bonar, grandchildren, Jacqueline, Robert Lee and Johnathan Bonar; step-grandchildren, Gave and Ben Chmiola; brothers, Arthur and Roger Mosteller; sisters, Mary, Thelma, Ruth and Dorothy; half-brothers, Junior and Denver Chandler; half-sisters, Edna Alford and Agnes Hayes and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be Nov 9th at 12:00, at Mosteller/Yoder Cemetery on Falls Creek Road in Tornado.

Mary Ellen Colaw 82 of Back Mt., Durbin, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins

Mary was born May 8, 1939 at Durbin and was the daughter of the late James "Russ" Russell and Jessie Mae Sheets Colaw.

She was a homemaker.

Other than her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Colaw.

Surviving Mary is her son, Doug Colaw and his wife Debra and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service for Mary will be 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastor Donnie Curry officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel Church Cemetery on Back Mt.

Stephanie Frost-Kujawski of Riverhead passed away Nov. 10, 2020, at Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Westhampton Beach, NY. She was 68.

Stephanie was born on April 17, 1952, to David and Lena (Kelly) Frost in Clarksburg, W.V., and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from high school in 1970, Steff moved to Long Island, where she earned degrees from Suffolk County Community College and St. Joseph’s College. She was a retired registered nurse.

Steff enjoyed jigsaw and word puzzles, card games and coloring brightly colored pictures. She was a member of Mattituck Presbyterian Church and looked forward to participating in annual events such as the Christmas bazaar.

She met her husband, Teddy Kujawski Jr., in 2012 and they married on June 8, 2013. They were a happy couple, sharing their Christian faith and a love of animals, especially cats. Sadly, after only three years, Teddy passed away suddenly. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Francis S. Wippert III, of Greenport, N.Y.

Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date.

Chester Franklin (Chet) Pifer, Jr. 65, of McConnelsville passed away December 8, 2015 following a long illness. Chet was born February 26, 1950 in Parkersburg, WV to the late Chester & Cora Lee (Kelley) Pifer.

After graduating from Belpre High School, Chet earned a Bachelors Degree at Sterling College, Sterling, KS. He later earned his Master’s Degree from Ohio University. He taught in Frontier and Morgan public schools for over 36 years. In addition to teaching, Chet excelled at coaching Track and Football.
At Morgan High School he coached track for 29 years and football for 25 years. Chet also operated the Morgan County Driving school, teaching thousands of kids to drive.

Chet was a member member of Valley Lodge #145 Free & Accepted Masons, Aladdin Shriners, Morgan Shrine Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, and the Marietta York Rite Bodies. He was also a charter member of the Morgan County Waterfowlers Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Chet was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Chet is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rebecca (Ross) Pifer, and his four children: daughter Laura VanGilder of Brighton, Colorado; son Shawn (Marygene) Pifer of Boise, Idaho; step-daughter Julie (Marty) Feldner of West Lafayette and step-son Jess (Kelly) Raines of Malta. He is also survived by grandchildren: Tristen VanGilder, Michael Pifer, Brian Qualls, Luke (Bre) Feldner, Blake Feldner, Jordan Raines, and Logan Raines.

In accordance with his wishes cremation will be observed. A celebration of Chet’s life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta. Masonic Services will also be conducted at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Coach Chet Pifer Scholarship Fund, Morgan Education Foundation, PO Box 626, Malta, OH 43758-0626.

Challen Waymon Stewart, Sr., 78, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away Satruday, February 2, 2013 at his home. He was born on July 31, 1934 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to the late William and Rosa (Miller) Stewart.

Challen was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired mechanic for North American Coal Company. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and United Mine Workers of America.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife - Katherine (Corrick) Stewart (1999); 6 brothers - William, Dan, Lawrence, Dick, Gene, and Tommy; and sister - Evelyn (Stewart) Carpenter.
He is survived by children - Challen Waymon Stewart, Jr. of Barnesville and Glenna (Stewart) Roe of St. Clairsville; sister - Loretta Shaffer of Florida; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Fuenral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio where services will be Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11 AM with Rev. Ed Eberhart. Burial will follow at Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio.

Corrick, Denzel D. "Squirrel", 64, Beallsville, died Jan.20, 2003, at the Belmont County Community Hospital.

He was born June 4, 1938, in Coalton, W.Va., a son of the late Lawrence Denzel and Huldah Mae Kelley Corrick. He was a retired employee of PPG Industries, Cleveland and North American Coal Corporation #1 Mine at Powhatan Point, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Powhatan Point and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Wilson Corrick ; two sons, Eric Corrick and his friend Keeley Gacek, St. Clairsville; Chad Corrick, Beallsville; two grandchildren, Kourtney and Wyatt Corrick, Belmont; two sisters, Martha Corrick and Ida Bellville, both of Powhatan Point; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty and Katie Stewart; two brothers, Lawrence, Jr., and Paul Corrick.

Friends were received at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Powhatan Point, Jan.22 and 23 until time of services at the Church of the Nazarene, Powhatan Point, with pastor Donald Lawson officiating. Burial in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 228 Powhatan Point and the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.

Robin Adair Sayre, age 66, of Walnut Hills Community, passed away on June 1, 2019, after a brief battle with cancer.

Robin was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on January 4, 1953, the son of the late John L. Sayre and Helena F. Sayre Furbee.

Robin was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary L. Sayre.

Robin is survived by his girl friend of eighteen years, Terry C. Lamm, his brothers, Gregory E. Sayre and Jerry L. Sayre of Fairmont, West Virginia, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, as well as his special Uncle Odist. He is also survived by Qatar and Chance, his two horses who will miss him dearly.
Robin graduated from Morgantown High School and worked as a construction worker, coal miner, maintenance worker and young horse trainer. He and Terry covered thousands of miles on horseback, riding in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Tennessee. Robin was a member of the American Endurance Ride Conference, and he and Bold Qatar received the First Place Regional Best Condition Award in 2005. Robin was also an avid fisherman and fished in West Virginia and Virginia. In his younger days, he was also an avid hunter.

Robin also shared his love for animals with Terry, both having rescued cats and dogs. Robin was preceded in death by his dogs Gator and Patch and his cat Precious. He was also preceded in death by his horse, Eleem. Robin and Terry request that donations be made to the Harrison County Humane Society, P.O. Box 4397, Clarksburg, West Virginia, 26302-4397, in Robin’s memory.

Robin was Methodist by faith, and his church was outside with Mother Nature, deep in the woods on horseback.

A special thank you to niece Keri Jo and Mary Beth for their generous and loving time and support spent with Robin during the last two weeks of his life.

Robin requested cremation and no Service.

Roselee Kelley Hood, 86, of Bellview Community, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Mon General Hospital with her family by her side.

Roselee was born in Fairmont on March 31, 1933. She was the daughter of Winfield and Katherine Carpenter Kelley.

Roselee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. In her early days, she worked at the Union Lunch and Parkette, but later she became an in-home caregiver for the elderly. She loved spending time and cooking for her family. She loved going to yard sales with her grandchildren and playing cards.
Roselee is survived by her daughters, Penney (John) Melton, Debbie (Danny) Roberts, and a son, Charles Hood, all of Fairmont; four grandsons, Eric (Rebecca) Melton, Todd (Ashley Shroyer) Melton, Steven (Caitlin) Roberts of Fairmont, and Jeff (Nicole) Roberts of St. Albins. She is also survived by her 8 great grandchildren, Eric, Conner, Tanner, Megan, Emma, Jaxson Melton, and Ella and Lincoln Roberts; a brother, Odist (Linda) Kelley; sisters, Shirley Shroyer and Carol (Ted) Gilkerson; and a sister-in-law, Freda Kelley. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who she loved.

In addition to her parents, Roselee was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Hood, he was the love of her life; 2 infant children, Cathy and Earl, who she always held close to her heart; her brother, Scott Kelley; sisters, Helen Furbee and Jean Nichols; and two infant siblings.

Roselee’s family would like to thank the Fairmont Clinic and Dr. Paliwal and his staff for all they have done over the years.

Her children and grandchildren would like to say that their mother and grandma will truly be missed and she was so loved.

Penney Jo Melton, 64, of Fairmont, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 16, 2020. She was born in Fairmont on December 30, 1955, a daughter of the late Robert and Roselee (Kelley) Hood.

After graduating Fairmont Senior High School, Penney went on to be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was raised in the Highland Ave United Method Church. She was a kind, sweet woman, who loved animals and living a simple life. She once said, “I love my life and never want it to change.”

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, John Robert Melton. The couple married on January 24, 1976.

She is also survived by sons, G. Eric Melton and wife Rebecca Lee, and J. Todd Melton and wife Ashley, all of Fairmont; brother, Charles Hood, of Fairmont; sister, Debbie Roberts and husband Dan, of Fairmont; grandchildren: Eric, Conner, Tanner, Megan, Emma, and Jaxson; brothers-in-law, Charles Melton and wife Tamma, of Elkins, and Thomas Melton, of Preston County; sister-in-law, Barbara Earl, of Waynestown; as well as several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Earl Hood; sister, Cathy Hood; and brother-in-law, Dave Earl.

Family and friends are welcome to a memorial service at Highland Ave. United Methodist Church, 204 Highland Ave., Fairmont, on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at noon, with Pastor Micah Blanks officiating. Following the service, there will be a Celebration of Life at John Robert Melton’s home.

  Death certificate is from December 1934.  Grave marker says 1935.  The death certificate for Earl William Kelley has the parents listed as Earl Kelley and Margret Carpenter.  If I only had the death certificate to refer to, I might have dismissed this child as belonging to another couple.  However, there is the grave marker.  When looking at all of the deaths recorded in WV for 1934 and 1935, this is the only death certificate that fits. The grave marker is recent and not from 1934.  The family had the current marker placed or replaced on the grave later.

FAIRMONT -- John William Nichols, 60, of Fairmont, died Friday, July 21, 2000, in the emergency room at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born April 5, 1940, in Fairmont, a son of the late James Francis and Mildred Evelyn Freese Nichols.

His wife of 28 years, Sandra Jean Kelley Nichols, survives.

Also surviving are five sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Mary Nichols, Clarksburg, John and Melissa Nichols, Wisconsin, Jimmy and Tammy Lance, Enterprise, and Carl and Kevin Nichols, both of Fairmont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Mark Yow, and Brenda and Roy Perkins, both of Fairmont; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Bonnie Nichols, Ohio; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Ray Mayhew, Cecilia and Sam Slaughter, and Sarah and William Renner, all of Fairmont; 16 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nichols was a member of St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church. He had worked at Fairmont General Hospital for over 30 years and was currently in the engineering department.

He was a graduate of St. Peter's High School. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 9 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 629.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting and watching horror movies.

Kimberley Kay Yow, 59, went to be with the Lord May 13, 2021, surrounded by her loving husband who never left her side, six children, and friends, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Kimberley was born October 15, 1961 and was the daughter of James Lance and Sandra Jean Kelley Nichols.

She graduated top of the nursing program at Davis and Elkins in 1991, obtained her RN degree and began her career as a critical care nurse at Mon General.
She went on to work as a nurse clinician at Ruby Memorial Hospital in the Critical Care Pulmonary Department and finished her career at United Hospital in the Gastroenterology Department. She made several friendships throughout her career and loved helping others.

She married the love of her life October 17, 1980 and together they shared 40 years of marriage. Her husband devoted the last 14 months caring for her, comforting her, holding her hand, and never left her side. She was a devoted mother who took time off from her career to raise her children. She lived for the lord and raised her children to have a relationship with the lord. She enjoyed cooking for her family, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Kimberley had many titles, but her favorite was nana. She adored her grandchildren and loved them all. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Olivia, whom she loved infinity and beyond. Olivia was her ray of sunshine and the bond they shared will be cherished.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years Mark Edward Yow; her children: Sheena Yow, David Yow (Joan), Travis Yow, Jessica Yow Killian (Taylor), William Yow, and Victoria Kay Yow. Her grandchildren Nathen Tackett, Olivia Kay Killian, Brayden Yow, Bentley Yow, Maverick Killian, Brock Yow, and unborn grandson, Benjamin Yow.

She is preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Frona Katherine Kelley her mother, Sandra Jean Kelley Lance, step-brother Kevin Lance.

The family would like to express special gratitude to United Hospital Center, WVUH, and home health for taking amazing care of her.

Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, WV, 26554, on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Huckins officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

James Lance Jr., 54, of Shinnston passed away on Saturday August 31, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He is the son of James Lance and the late Sandra Jean Kelley.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy ( Pyles ) Lance, whom he married on October 31, 1992; his daughters, China Lance, Autumn Lance and her companion, Dan Neel; his son James Lance III and grandsons, Harley Lance, Jonas Neel and Max Neel.

He enjoyed the outdoors as he loved hunting and fishing.

Kevin Alan Nichols, 46, of Fairmont, passed away on October 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born July 11, 1974 in Fairmont, WV a son of the late John William and Sandra Jean Kelley Nichols. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Kelly Ash Nichols.

Kevin attended Trinity Assembly of God Church in Fairmont. He was a 1993 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and was employed with Murray Energy where he served as a trackman at Blacksville #2 mine.

Kevin enjoyed fishing and spending time on the Tygart River. He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and WVU Football teams, as well as taking trips with the family to Daytona Beach and to Disneyworld.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Timothy Nichols of Barrackville, his brothers John and his wife Melissa Nichols of North Carolina, James and his wife Julie Nichols of Fairmont, Carl Nichols and his companion Bryanna Ordiway of Fairmont, his sisters, Brenda and her husband Roy Perkins of Grant Town, and Kimberly and her husband Mark Yow of Fairmont, as well as his parents-in-law, John and Laura Ash of Fairmont, a sister-in-law Tammy Lance of Shinnston; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Lance.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in Kevin’s memory to the Marion County Humane Society, P.O. Box 905, Fairmont, WV 26554.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. The family will receive friends at Trinity Assembly of God, 70 Maranatha Drive, Fairmont, WV on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
