Elizabeth Phillips
  About the first name of Isabel.  The only place that the name "Isabel Elizabeth Phillips" appears is on Find A Grave. This is website where people like to make stuff up to fit into their personal family trees.  No where in the historical records, does the first name of Isabel appear.....only Elizabeth.
  Prior to marriage, I assume Elizabeth is living with her parents.  However the 1850 Census does not show Elizabeth living with her parents.  Next door to father Moses, lived his brother Benjamin Franklin Phillips.  Son Adonijah is shown living with him.  Therefore, during the 1850 Census, it is unknown exactly where Elizabeth is.

  1961 - 1964 - Elizabeth and Adonijah are living in Ohio.  This is where children Pheobe and Adonijah are born
  Before the 1870 Census, husband Adonijah disappears. Some family trees confuse this Adonijah W Phillips with others with the same name. (There was another Adonijah Phillips with wife Elizabeth in Tucker Co., WV)  There are some that say he died in Xenia, OH in 1880.  No actual documentation for this.  He could have disappeared or died during the Civil War for all anyone knows.  What is known, is that Elizabeth and the four children are back in WV living with father Moses during the 1870 Census.

  1920 - Census - This family was missed during the 1920 Census.  There is one set of Census records for Beverly, Randolph Co., WV.  I looked through all 28 pages on the FamilySearch website which has easier to read versions of the 1920 Census.  What is odd is that there are no Phillips.  So there is a section of Beverly that is missing.

Donald Hall Gear, 66, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Davis Medical Center in Elkins.

Donald was born Monday, October 9, 1950 in Ekins, a son of the late Austin Gear and Catherine (Ray) Gear.

Left to cherish Donald's memory is one brother, Charles Gear and wife Sue of Elkins, one sister, Louise Ann Corbett and husband Dennis of Myrtle Beach, SC,
nieces and nephews, Denise Ross and husband Jamie of Manassas, VA, Shaun Corbett of Myrtle Beach, SC, Michael Corbett of Manassas, VA, Sherri Lord and husband Jamie of Durham, NC, Kayla Stewart and husband Mike of Norton, Zack Gear of Elkins and Courtney Thompson and husband Justin of Elkins and one sister in law, Jenny Gear of Elkins.

Preceding Donald in death besides his parents was one brother, Michael Lynn Gear and one nephew, Charles Christopher, "Chuck" Gear.

Donald was a 1968 graduate of Elkins High School and graduated from Fairmont State in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree.

He worked for the WV DOH, Charlie Gear Contracting and in his retirement years, Walmart in Elkins.

Donald was a Master Mason of Elkins Lodge #108 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge.

Donald's request for cremation will be honored.

Michael L. Gear, age 52 years, a resident of Whitman Ave., Crystal Springs, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at his residence.

He was born March 25, 1956 at Elkins, a son of the late Austin Hall Gear and Catherine Hamilton Ray Gear. On February 18, 1979, he was married to the former Virginia L. “Jenny” Rennix, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Zachary “Zach” Gear of Elkins, two daughters, Kayla Stewart and husband Michael of Norton and Courtney Gear of Elkins, two brothers, Donald Gear and Charles “Charlie” Gear, both of Elkins and one sister, Louise Corbett of Myrtle Beach, SC. Two grandchildren, Nattie Stewart and Jaida George survive, with a third grandchild due to be born in the near future.

Michael was a former employee of the Western Maryland Railroad. He then received his Associate Degree in Nursing from Davis and Elkins College. He worked at Nella’s Nursing Home for nine years. He recently became employed at Appalachian Community Health where he worked until his death.

Michael was a Piper with the West Virginia Highlanders of Davis and Elkins College for over 25 years. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF and AM. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the residence of Roy and Dee White, 44 Cherry St., Elkins, WV 26241 with Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Michael L. Gear. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.

Alta Cleona Gear Poe, 79, a resident of 220 Davis St., Elkins, passed away at 11:29 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past week. Death was attributed to a stroke.

She was born April 20, 1923, at Beverly, the only daughter of the late Charles E. and Lottie Phillips Gear.

On Dec. 16, 1945, in Beverly, she married Urban D. Poe Jr., who preceded her in death on May 29, 1970.

Mrs. Poe was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by two children, her son, Terry Poe, and wife, Rebecca, of Belington, and daughter, LeAnna Bickel and husband, Jerald, of Gilman; five grandchildren, Mrs. Joe (Debbie) Schmidlen of Elkins, Mrs. Chris (Erin) Canales, Waldorf, Md., James Bickel and Heather Bickel, both of Elkins, and Angela Bickel, a student at Marshall University in Huntington.  Five great-grandchildren, Seth Roy, Joseph Schmidlen, Madison and Allison Canales, and Logan Bickel, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Poe was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one brother, Austin Gear.

Mrs. Poe was a graduate of Beverly High School in 1941 and following graduation worked in the office of Dr. P.L. Gray in Elkins.

She was employed by the Admissions Department at Davis Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School superintendent, chairperson of the board, leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship and active in the United Methodist Women of the church.

She is past president, secretary and historian of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion Auxiliary and Salon 8/40 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was a member and volunteer at the Randolph County Senior center and a former member of the Melody Chorus.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
