1940 - Census - The
Census for this family is almost impossible to find by their
names. (Currently indexed under last name "David" as
of 4/14/2020). The actual census sheets are almost
illegible. I found it by looking up the street address
on Howard's WWII Registration for Young Men and the
Clarksburg City Directories, which was 1623 Goff Ave,

Wenatchee
- Laura Coulson, 70, of Wenatchee, WA, lost her battle with
cancer on May 29, 2005.
Laura was born in Fairmont, West
Virginia on October 30, 1934, to Howard and Edsel Vance.
Laura's only sibling, Arthur Vance, a brother who passed away in
1982. Laura graduated from Monongah High School in West
Virginia in 1952, and soon thereafter, joined the United States
Air Force.
In 1956, Laura met her husband, Ronald Coulson and
soon thereafter, was married in Wichita Falls, Texas. Laura and
Ronald celebrated 49 years together on May 5, 2005. Among her
many travels, Laura and Ron made a home in Ephrata, WA. Laura
was a homemaker, worked for Coast To Coast Hardware and also
Safeway's. Laura also worked for the Forestry Service in
Northern California, donated her time to the Hospice
organization in Hemet, California, and in 2004, retired to
Wenatchee, WA.
She was proud to call Wenatchee home. She enjoyed
the view of the Wenatchee River Valley and the Cascade Peaks.
She looked forward to the whistling of the trains going by
several times a day. Laura never met a stranger and spoke to all
she came in contact with, always with her beautiful smile and
welcoming warm heart. Joey Popovich Jones of Hutchinson, West
Virginia, was Laura's lifetime best friend for over 60 years and
brought Laura many beautiful memories and years of comfort.
Laura and Ronald have three children, daughter, Terri and
husband Dennis Brackett of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; son,
Ronald R. Coulson and wife Cori and family of Arnold,
California; and daughter, Lorri Coulson Duran of Wenatchee, WA.
Laura had seven grandchildren, Jarrod Watson and family of Rio
Rancho, New Mexico, Courtney Watson of Gunnison, Colorado, Adam
Watson of Carson City, Nevada, Mark Coulson and family of Salt
Lake City, Utah, Phama Beth Trumble and family of Aurora,
Indiana, Christopher Duran and family of Hobbs, New Mexico and
Phillip Coulson of Angels Camp, California.
Laura had eight
great-grandchildren. Laura was known as "Granny" by all them and
loved deeply. Laura is survived by Delores Vance (sister-in-law)
of Hutchinson, West Virginia; niece, Luarann Allen and family of
Enterprise, West Virginia, niece, Sue Ellen Lanham and family of
Shinnston, West Virginia; Nephew, Howard Vance and family of
Fairmont, West Virginia; Sally Thompson (a sister-in-law) and
family of Hayden Lake, Idaho; Helen Shackleford (sister-in-law)
and husband Robert and family of Coeur D Alene, Idaho.
Laura (Mom) will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother,
grandmother aunt, sister and friend to all. Laura leaves behind
her most loyal friend, Sadee, the family pet. Laura, Mom, you
will be terribly missed and never forgotten, we love you. The
family would especially like to thank Hospice of Wenatchee, WA.
Kim, Terri, Bev, Terri, Gayle and Chaplain Scott, We thank you
for your wonderful support and many prayers you showed to Laura
in her final days.
A Memorial Service will be held in Clark Fork, Idaho on June 11,
2005, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would kindly be
appreciated to the Hospice organization of Wenatchee, WA and/or
The American Cancer Society. |

Bunner: ‘Take-charge’ product of Army years
By Cliff Nichols | Times West Virginian Nov 12, 2016
https://www.timeswv.com/news/bunner-take-charge-product-of-army-years/article_856674c4-a8bd-11e6-b67d-c3cd72563fa2.html
Accessed Apr 17, 2020 |
FAIRMONT — In recent years, Charles
M. Bunner has been known in the Fairmont area as “Mr.
Horseshoe.”
He has heavily promoted that sport, one of many the 1954 East
Fairmont High School graduate grew to love from his days as a
young boy.
That “take-charge” attitude about horseshoe, a sport he
continued to enjoy playing, developed at least in part from his
20-plus years on active duty with the U.S. Army. He retired as a
master sergeant E-8 after serving from Aug. 9, 1954 to Sept. 1,
1974 and as an advisor within the U. S. Army’s Non-Commissioned
Officers’ Logistical Program upwards of three years of his last
years of active duty.
Bunner, 19 after his graduation from EFHS, thought a sports
career was a possibility.
“I thought I was going to get a contract with a baseball team,”
he recalled. “Well, that fell through. I thought I was going to
get a shot at the North-South all-star football.
“When they picked the last player, I said I can’t be living here
on my mother and my late stepfather. ... I was draft age. Back
then, they held that against you when you were trying to find a
job. I wasn’t about to go in the mines. That made me decide to
go into the military.”
In high school, one of the courses Bunner took was Problems of
Democracy.
“I was an introvert, according to the self-examination of that
book, except on the athletic field,” he said. “When I went up
through the ranks in the military, I became an extrovert.
“I had to to be able to speak up for myself and being in charge
of other people. I don’t consider myself an introvert on the
athletic field. I’ve been involved in sports since I was knee
high to a grasshopper so to speak. I wasn’t great at it, but I
still liked the sports.”
Along with service throughout the United States, Bunner had two
tours in Korea and Germany and one each in Vietnam, Italy and
the U.S. territory of Alaska, before it became a state. He was
married three times while in the service and has four children,
two boys and two girls.
“I never saw combat,” Bunner said. “We only took incoming one
time.”
Among his awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal with four bronze service stars, Republic of
Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak
leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal and Good Conduct Medal Clasp
bronze five loops.
“I’m very proud that I served,” Bunner said. “It’s an honor. I
think every able, capable man should serve a minimum of two
years in the military. If he can’t respect his fellow man and
his country by being in the military, I don’t see what else
would do it.
“That’s the way I look at it. You meet people from all walks of
life, and you’ve got to depend on them for one thing or
another.”
He said that “I got to see a lot of the world at taxpayers’
expense,” including several castles.
After retiring from the Army, Bunner, 82, worked at a Marion
County children’s shelter as a groundskeeper before joining the
U.S. Postal Service in 1975 and working there until 1990.
Bunner, who said he met some “fine, fine people” while in the
Army, also developed strong patriotism.
He’s bothered by seeing people refuse to stand for the “The Star
Spangled Banner.”
“Having had two blood uncles serve during World War II, and
another uncle by marriage that became missing in action during
World War II, leaving a very young son, and also a cousin that
survived the Bataan march and being a prisoner of war upwards
three and a half years, along with others not of immediate kin
that lost their lives, it is most discouraging to know our
country has citizens that will not stand when the national
anthem is being played, and even more so, when one is well aware
we have many former military and others that are living but
cannot stand because of loss of limbs,” Bunner said. |

Margery was one of many wives
Richard Lew Llewellyn had. Some at the same time. Appears to
have been a serial polygamist. While still married to Margery,
he married Karen P Nagle, 1962, ID, and Barbara Sweat, 1966, VA.
Probably more marriages if someone was to really dig around.

Thompson; two sons Kenneth Brooks Thompson and Brian Keith
Thompson; two brothers Harold Thompson and James Thompson; five
sisters Helen Thompson, Edsel Vance, Wilma Bunner VanGilder,
Margie McCray Sturm and Doris Shaffer; two nephews Arthur Vance
and Larry McCray and a niece Laura Vance Coulson,
He is survived by a son Roger Lee Thompson and his wife Diana of

Except for approximately three years in Salinas, CA in the early
1930’s, Knowlen grew up on the East Side of Fairmont. In 1943,
at the age of sixteen he joined the United States Navy and
served in Guam. After being honorably discharged from the
military in 1946, he returned to Fairmont and became an employee
of Sharon Steel.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and the fellowship with
friends of bowling. He was loved by his family and referred by
“Uncle Node” or “Uncle Knowlen” by his nephews and nieces.
Our dear father and grandfather deserves a beautiful tribute.
However, we appreciate in this unknown time with the COVID-19
pandemic that attending the service may not be in your best
health interest. Please be with us in prayer. Should you be able
to celebrate in his life, a Gathering will be held at Ford
Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road,
Fairmont, WV on Friday from 10:00 AM – noon. A Celebration of
Life Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 at noon with
