Note: On the marriage license and delayed birth certificate for
Birtie, her name is spelled Birtie. In the SS Death Index, her
first name is spelled Bertie. On the very new looking
grave marker it is spelled Bertie. Since the grave marker
appears new, there is no telling what Birtie/Bertie preferred or
what was on any earlier grave marker. The one document
that she had absolute control of the content, was her delayed
birth certificate. Her first name is spelled "Birtie"
She also signs it this way, modifying her signature to correct
the "e" to an "i". (See certificate to the left) |

Franklin, VA
Note: There is a conflict with the birth year on the
grave marker for Rose. What is correct is the 1920
census for her parents. The Census was taken in
Jan 10, 1920 for this family. The youngest child
was Annie Grouch at 1 yr. Rose's sister. So
Rose was NOT born in 1919 as the grave marker says or
she would have appeared in the 1920 Census. Death
record for NC says yob was 1921.
