Mrs. Rosalie Hart Kerens Gill, age
85, passed away on Thursday, July 31st at Rex Hospital, Raleigh,
North Carolina. Born on March 19, 1929 in Kerens, West Virginia,
she graduated from Elkins High School and attended Davis and
Elkins College. She married John Kerens in 1946 and they had two
children: Deborah and John.
She was preceded in death by her former husbands John Kerens and
James Gill; as well as her son, John (wife Judy).
She is survived by her daughter Debbie and her husband Ted of
Cary NC, and their children Bryan (and wife Caroline) of
Evanston IL, Bradley (and wife Jessica) of Huntersville NC, and
Courtney Harrigan (and husband David) of Durham NC. She is also
survived by five great-grandchildren, with a sixth one on the
way. Her sister Anna Hart Howse (Robert) of Fort Worth, Texas
also survives her.
In 1987 she married James Gill of Lexington KY and they resided
in Wellington Florida until his death in 1998 where they were
active members of St. Peter’s UMC in Wellington. Rosalie
continued to live in Wellington until 2013 when she moved to
North Carolina to be closer to her daughter and family. While in
Wellington she enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, Red Hats, the Order of the
Eastern Star Iretta Sherman Chapter # 415, Wellington Seniors,
and Soroptimist International of The Palm Beaches. She was a
direct descendant of John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of
Independence.
A private service with interment will be held on a later date at
Israel Cemetery in Kerens WV. |

Deborah Ann Kerens Wagner,
65, passed away at her home in Cary on Sunday, February
21. She is preceded in death by her father John Wilbert
Kerens, her mother Rosalie Hart Kerens Gill and her
brother John William Kerens. Debbie is survived by her
husband Ted, her children Bryan Wagner, Bradley Wagner,
and Courtney Harrigan, their spouses Caroline Wagner,
Jessica Wagner, and Dave Harrigan, and her six
grandchildren Kaitlyn Harrigan, Samuel Wagner, Henry
Wagner, Avery Wagner, Nora Wagner, and Sarah Wagner.
Debbie was born on December 12, 1950 in Randolph County,
West Virginia. She is a graduate of Boyertown High
School and Allentown Hospital School of Nursing in
Pennsylvania, during which time she met her husband Ted.
In 1997 Debbie graduated with a BS in Nursing from UNC
Chapel Hill, and in 2000 she received a Master of
Science from the Department of Education at NC State
University. |
Debbie was a lifelong nurse, working
at Raleigh Community and Wake Med hospitals before a career
change to public school teaching in 1995. From 1996 until 2011,
Debbie worked as a high school teacher with Wake County Schools,
teaching Health Occupations and serving as the faculty leader of
the HOSA Club. Debbie received her National Board Professional
Teaching Standards Certification and was the recipient of
numerous awards, including Teacher of the Year at Fuquay-Varina
High School in 2001. After retiring from full-time teaching,
Debbie continued to work as an Adjunct Professor within the
Department of Education at NC State University.
Debbie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Ted
were married on May 26, 1973 in Boyertown, Pennsylvania and in
1983 they moved to Cary, which has since remained their home.
Debbie cared deeply for her six grandchildren, who knew Debbie
as “Gram” and adored their time with her.
Debbie was an active member of First United Methodist Church in
Cary, where she was a member of the AGAPE Church Circle.
Additionally, she was very active in the community,
participating in the Women’s Club of Raleigh and Alpha Delta
Kappa sorority.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 5 at First
United Methodist Church in Cary. Visiting time with the family
will begin at 10am, followed by a service at 11am. All are
welcome to attend and celebrate Debbie's life. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First
United Methodist Church of Cary (firstcary.com). |

John W. Kerens, age 53, passed away
peacefully at home, October 1, 2011 in Deming, NM. Born
September 13, 1958 in Cumberland, MD to John Willard and Rosalie
Hart Kerens. Married Judith Johnson Kerens June 25, 1985, later
sealed in the Ogden Temple.
John obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees early in life.
After retiring from the Salt Lake City Police Department, he
became a District Attorney for the state of New Mexico and
created his own practice as a defense attorney prior to his
death.
Survived by his wife, Judith; four sons, Jared (Hannah), David,
Joshua (Bre), and Daniel (Wendy); 13 grandchildren; mother,
Rosalie Gill; sister, Debbie Wagner. Preceded in death by his
father.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011, 11:00
am at the Layton Stake Center, 60 East Gordon. Viewings will be
held from 6-8:00 pm on Sunday and one hour prior, both at the
church. Interment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 1640 East
Lakeview Drive, Bountiful. |
