About Jacob's middle
initial of "S"
I have found a family tree of a direct descendant of Jacob's that says
the middle initial for Jacob, stands for the name "Scudder". He gives no
source for this information. There are absolutely no public
historical documents available for view that show that Jacob's middle
name was Scudder. For all anyone knows, it could very well be
Slagle, not Scudder. Unfortunately, everyone is copying this person's
information perpetuating information that could be wrong. |

One thing about Mary Ann that is nagging at me,
is whether her maiden name was actually Phillips instead of Nestor, the same
last name as her husband. This has happened before in my family tree.
There are numerous family trees for Mary Ann, that show her parents with the
last name Phillips. However, there are no documents that back this up.
The death certificates for both Alonzo and Helen give Mary Ann's maiden name
as Phillips. Which may be just a case of no one really knowing what it
actually was. I found the last name of Nestor from the "Hart of
Randolph" book page 289. The first name of her parents, Joseph and
Catherine, from the marriage record.

children who died in days or a few months on this page, you will
notice that their date of birth was 1902. The year 1903 on this
document, should actually be 1902

Because of the
conflicting 1902 and 1903 death dates. There are many
researchers who have 1902 and the rest have 1903. In July
2022, I was contacted by a fellow researcher, Jonathan Moore. Mr
Moore found two newspaper articles that solidify the death year for
Jacob as 1902, NOT 1903.
