Helen Winnifred Wyatt Phares,
90, a resident of 1035 N. Randolph Ave., Elkins, passed away
at 6:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in the Davis Memorial
Hospital emergency department.
She was born May 24, 1913, at Faulkner, a daughter of the
late Jacob Lawrence and Mary Martha Coberly Wyatt.
On Oct. 16, 1929, in Elkins, she was married to Marshall
Samuel Phares, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1996.
Surviving are one son, Richard William Phares, Baltimore,
Md.; one daughter, Wanda Jean Basil and husband, Carl Jr.,
Laurel Mountain Road; four grandchildren, Elaine Griesel and
husband, Edward, Montrose, Gordon L. Basil and wife, Connie,
Montrose, Michael R. Phares and wife, Sandy, Bowden, and
Vicki L. Burge, Elkins; four great-grandchildren, Michael A.
Phares and wife, Sara, Elkins, Vada J. Mallow and husband,
Jerry, Elkins, Stephanie N. Burge, Elkins, and Justin Edward
Basil, Fredricksburg, Va.; and two
great-great-grandchildren, Samantha Michele Phares and
Austin Michael Phares of Elkins.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter-in-law, Hilda Mae
Phares; a grandson, Gary Lynn Basil; three sisters, Margie
Currence, Flora Mae Vaughan and Florence Wyatt; and a
brother, Robert Wyatt.
Mrs. Phares was a homemaker and worked for several
restaurants in the Elkins area. She was a former member of
the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the
Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at
1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Walter
Blough will officiate and interment will follow in the
Maplewood Cemetery. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in
charge of the arrangements for Helen Winnifred Wyatt Phares.

MR. RICHARD WILLIAM PHARES, 82,
a resident of Baltimore, Md., passed away Thursday evening,
Dec. 20, 2012, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Unit in
Elkins.
He was born March 8, 1930, at Elkins, a son of the Helen
Winifred Wyatt and Marshall Samuel Phares. He was married to
Hilda Thompson Phares, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Michael Richard Phares and wife,
Sandra, of Bowden; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Phares Burge of
Elkins; a grandson, Michael Allen Phares and wife, Sara; a
granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Burge; a
great-granddaughter, Samantha Michelle Phares; and a
great-grandson, Austin Michael Phares of Elkins. Also
surviving are one sister, Wanda Phares Basil; a nephew,
Gordon Basil and wife, Connie; and a niece, Elaine Griesel
and husband, Edward, all of Elkins.
Mr. Phares was employed as a taxi driver in Baltimore, Md.,
for numerous companies for more than 40 years.
Friends may call from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, at
Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Monday from the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Interment
will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care, Corp.,
169 Diamond St., Elkins, WV 26241, in memory of Mr. Phares.

Jean Basil, age 81 years, a resident of Route 1,
Montrose, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in the
Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 11, 1931 in Elkins a daughter
of the late Marshall Samuel Phares and the late
Helen Winnifred Wyatt Phares. On July 15, 1946 at
Oakland, MD, she was married to Carl Basil, Jr. who
preceded her in death on November 27, 2004.
Also preceding her in death was one son, Gary Lynn
Basil and one brother Richard W. Phares. |
Surviving are one son, Gordon
Basil and wife Connie of Montrose, one daughter, Mary Elaine
Griesel and husband Ed of Montrose, two grandchildren,
Justin Edward Basil and fiancée Laura Hoffman,
Fredericksburg, VA and Vada Jean Mallow and husband Jerry of
Montrose and one great grandchild, Zachary Lee Mallow.
Wanda attended the schools of Randolph County and was a
Homemaker. She was a member of the Orlena United Methodist
Church at Gilman.
Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, May 31,
2013 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral
service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 1, 2013 from
the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Fisher
officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orlena
United Methodist Church, c/o Milford Jones, Rt. 1, Box 31,

Mrs. Dora V. Wyatt, age 88
years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday evening,
November 26, 2012 in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care
Center.
She was born August 10, 1924 in Landes, WV, a daughter of
the late Olie Walter & Sarah Elizabeth Alt Ayers. On June 9,
1949 in Elkins she married Robert Lawrence Wyatt who
preceded her in death February 27, 1967.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Robert Lawrence
Wyatt, Jr.; four brothers, John, Ira, Harold and Larry Ayers
and three sisters, Catherine Watts, Anna Mae Irwin and
Ruthaleen Ayers.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald Lee Wyatt of
Buckhannon, Steven Roy Wyatt and Terry Wayne Wyatt, both of
Elkins, two daughters, Mary M. Tincher of Beverly and Sara
Beth Collett of Elkins and three brothers, Chester, David
and Lonnie Ayers. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren,
seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great
grandchild.
Mrs. Wyatt was a homemaker and a member of the Elkins First
Church of Christ where she taught nursery class for twenty
six years and was a member of the Randolph County Senior
Center.
Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday,
November 29, 2012 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A
funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November
30th from the funeral home chapel with Minister Michael
Courtwright officiating. Interment will follow in the Little
Arlington Cemetery near Elkins. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of
Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Dora V. Wyatt.

Marguerite Elaine Mahoney Wyatt, 70, a resident of
Elkins, passed from this life Sunday, August 31,
2020, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
Marguerite was born Monday, August 21, 1950, in
Elkins, a daughter of the late Willard Mahoney and
Pauline Channell Mahoney. In 1968, she was married
to Robert Lawrence Wyatt, Jr. who preceded her death
in 1993.
Left to cherish Marguerite’s memory are four
children, Matt Wyatt and wife, Amy, of Pensacola,
FL, Anita Bennett of Petersburg, Bobbi Jo Harper and
husband, Bryan, and Elizabeth Wyatt and fiancé, Eric
Ferguson, all of Elkins, |
one sister, Faye Bender and
husband, Roger, six grandchildren, Ashley Black, Jacob
Wyatt, Bradley Bennett, Faith Bennett, Tierney Bennett, and
Brianna Harper, five great grandchildren, her dog, Miley,
and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marguerite besides her parents and husband were
three siblings, Paul Mahoney, Jack Mahoney, and Carol
Murphy, and her companion Avin “Tom” Badgett.
Marguerite attended the schools of Randolph County and was a
homemaker. She enjoyed watching wrestling, playing video
games, and watching family feud. She loved her family and
will be sadly missed.
A visitation will be held at Randolph Funeral home on
Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 11am until 1pm, the funeral
hour. Rev. Dave Collins will officiate, and interment will
follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins. |

Mary Mae Elza, age 72 years, a
resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at
her residence. Death was attributed to heart disease which
she had battled for many decades.
She was born November 13, 1938 in Elkins a daughter of the
late Margie and Warren Currence.
Surviving are her children, Theresa Ends and husband Paul,
Elkins, Michael Elza and wife Tonya and Kevin Elza and wife
Tammie, grandchildren, Kari Shahan, Adam Elza, Kassi Elza,
Michael Elza, Christopher Elza and Elizabeth Elza, great
grandchildren, Austin Simmons, Brian Simmons Miller, Ciara
Shahan and Dominic Koontz, one brother, Alton “Jughead”
Currence and wife Bonnie, Lancaster, OH, one sister, Janet
Hensil and husband Tom, Elkins, her nieces and nephews,
Chris Storrick, Jeff and Brent Currence and their children.
She loved her dog, Dakota very much and special friends,
Randy Simmons and Neal Sacks as well as other numerous
friends.
Also preceding her in death was one grandson, Justin M.
Elza.
Mary worked for many years, at Appalachian Community Health
Center but the cornerstone of her life was her family. She
put family first in her life and if anyone thought
differently, she would be the first to tell people that
family should come first, especially children. She was the
best mother, grandmother and great grandmother that anyone
could ask for and her family’s thoughts and expressions show
that. Mary always put other peoples thoughts and feelings
first, especially her children. Mary loved going shopping
and visiting Harrisonburg and Staunton, VA. Mary loved life
and the people in her life and showed it all the time with
her dry sense of humor.
At the request of the deceased, her remains will be
cremated. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon
until 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Tomblyn
Funeral Home in Elkins. A service of remembrance will be
held at 2:00 PM Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with
Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Memorial contributions
may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington,
WV. 26251 or to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box
785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mary. |

Justin Michael Elza, age 22
years, a resident of Beverly, passed away Sunday, November
25, 2007 in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency
Department.
He was born December 19, 1984 in Elkins, a son of Michael C.
Elza of Elkins and Donna K. Elza of Beverly. He is survived
by his stepmother, Tonya L. Elza of Elkins; maternal
grandparents, Perry & Reta Dillon of Beverly and
paternal grandparents, Max & Sandra Elza of Ripley,
WV and Mary Elza of Elkins. |
Also surviving are two brothers,
Adam Christopher Elza and Michael Carl Elza, II, both of
Elkins and one sister, Kassi Marie Elza of Elkins.
Justin was employed at Coastal Lumber Company and enjoyed
sports, hunting and fishing.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday,
November 28, 2007 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A
funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November
29th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Boggs
officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State
Memorial Gardens near Gilman. |

Janet
Rae Currence Hensil, 76, a resident of Elkins,
passed from this life Sunday, September 16, 2018, at
Davis Medical Center in Elkins.
Janet was born Thursday, June 4, 1942, in Elkins, a
daughter of the late Warren Joseph Currence and
Margie Belle Wyatt Currence. On October 28, 1960, in
Oakland, MD, she was married to Thomas Zane Hensil,
who survives.
Left to cherish Janet’s memory is one daughter,
Chris Hensil Storrick and husband, Jay of Elkins,
one brother, Alton Currence and wife, Bonnie of
Lancaster, OH, |
four grandchildren, Heidi
McFadden and husband, Colin of Falls Church, VA, Samuel
Storrick and wife, Alexa of Midland, TX, Benjamin Storrick
and wife, Becca of Stevens City, VA, and Gabriel Storrick of
Canonsburg, PA, and four great-grandchildren, Molly, Jane,
Arthur, and Betty McFadden.
Besides her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her
sister, Mary Elza with whom she was very close.
Janet was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of
1959, and she graduated from Morgantown Beauty Academy with
the class of 1960. She had worked at various Beauty Salons
in the area, but her greatest enjoyment came from being a
homemaker and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed
being outdoors taking care of her flowers and gardening as
well as being inside embroidering and decorating her home.
Hand written notes accompanied by hand-drawn pictures were
often received by her grandchildren to their delight. She
was a member of the Elkins First Church of Christ.
Janet’s request for cremation was honored. A visitation will
be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Saturday, September
22, 2018, from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. A memorial service
will then be conducted by Rev. Mark Wilmoth at 11:30 am. |
