About the spelling of
Adonigah
The dominant spelling of Adonijah uses a "J".
Adonigah in this specific family used a "G".
Most everyone on Ancestry (as of Sep 2022) has it wrong.
Look at Adonigah's marriage license, death certificate, and
grave marker. The G is being used. In addition, in the
obituary for Adonigah's brother Dilbert in 2017, he gives
his name as "Nigah".
Evidently, the whole family has ignored this fact and has
spelled it with a "J" in the obituary and life story
(below). |

Obituary for
Phil Gainer
https://www.tomblynfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Philip-Gainer/#!/Obituary
Accessed September 22, 2022 |
 |
Phil Gainer, of Elkins, passed
away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 of an
apparent heart attack while hunting in the woods that he so
loved.
He was not only young but youthful, accustomed to beating
his sons at chess and his brothers at racquetball, enjoying
daddy-daughter days, and walking four miles each day and
hiking many more over the weekends on the banks of his
favorite trout streams (of which there were many).
He was an outdoorsman in every sense of the word,
celebrating the glory of God’s creation with every breath he
took, including his last. |
Phil was a man of deep integrity and action that enriched
the lives of countless members of the Elkins community. He
was a man of many friends and few words - unless he was
talking about fishing, hunting, his family, or his faith.
His obituary is not one of words, but the legacy that he
leaves behind. This legacy will be carried on not just by
his devoted children but many of those in the community
whose lives he touched over the years. Phil was actively
engaged with the youth of the community, acting as a Scout
leader and a coach at multiple levels of sports through the
years, including Minor League, Little League, Babe Ruth, and
Jerry West. He also established the Mayor’s Inter-City Track
Meet, the ‘Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs’ Fishing Derby in
Bowden, and an annual summer program at the Elkins City Park
for children in the community to have a place to play
between school years.
Through his 42 years of work as the Director of the Elkins
Parks and Recreation Commission, Phil had an enormous impact
on the town of Elkins, helping to grow the parks system from
two to six facilities and encouraging millions of dollars of
investment in the city of Elkins over the course of his
career. Just recently, he was able to accomplish his
lifelong dream of establishing a civic and community center
in Elkins, which, fittingly, will be the site of his
memorial service.
More important than his service, however, Phil was a man of
deep and abiding faith, whose devotion to God was apparent
in every word he uttered and action he undertook. He led by
example as a dedicated father and husband, representing the
true meaning of marriage and what it looks like to be a
leader. He was generous with his time and good cheer,
touching so many people with small and random acts of
kindness through the years. He woke up each day and prayed,
“Lord, how can you use me today?” It is of no question that
he was used each and every day that he walked this earth.
Phil was born October 10, 1952. He is the son of Thelma
Gainer of Elkins and the late Glenn W. Gainer, Jr.
Also surviving are his wife, Tammy, with whom he recently
celebrated 36 years of marriage on November 17; his
children, Seth, of Washington, D.C.; Nathan, wife Chera, and
their daughter Railyn, of Hurricane, WV; and Taira Gainer

Obituary for
Allen Morgan Burnell
https://www.trinitymemorialgardens.com/obituaries/Allen-Burnell/#!/Obituary
Accessed September 23, 2022 |
 |
Allen M. Burnell 85 of LaPlata,
MD passed away on Saturday October 23, 2021 in Elkins, WV.
Allen was born on August 3, 1936 in Washington, DC to the
late Alfred and Lillian Burnell. He is also predeceased by
his son, Jeffrey Burnell; brother, Richard Burnell.
Allen is survived by his wife, Charlotte Burnell; son, Mark
Aaron Burnell (Ruth); daughters, Dawn Burnell Adamo (Saverio)
and Amy Burnell Youngblood (Jay); brother, Fred Burnell
(Anne); grandchildren, Sophia, Hunter, Camryn, Peyton and
Liliana one nephew and three nieces. |
Allen served in the United States Air Force and was a
Computer Specialist for the Army Intelligence Contract
program support for the Department of the Army. After 39
years in government service, Allen went on to his second
career and worked for as the Army Area Manager Eastern
Region for General Dynamics for 10 years. In 2003 he fully
retired and became a full-time granddad. He attended every
game, school and church concert, award ceremony and
grandparent event possible supporting his five
grandchildren. He was so proud of them and he didn't
hesitate to let everyone know it.
After retirement, Allen spent as much time as possible at
his vacation home in Davis, WV. The cabin he and Charlotte
own was his happy place. He loved everything about West
Virginia – the slower pace, the beautiful views, the people
and driving the winding mountain roads.
Anyone who knew Allen knew that family was the most
important thing to him. He was always available to lend a
hand when asked and completed numerous projects for his
children and grandchildren.
Allen was a lover of crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and
books. He was a voracious reader and a frequent patron of
the local libraries, including the small library near his
mountain cabin.
The family will receive friends on Friday October 29, 2021
from 9 until Service time at 11 AM at the First Baptist
Church of LaPlata (9070 Hawthorne Rd. LaPlata, MD 20646).
Interment to follow at the Trinity Memorial Gardens (3221
Mattawoman Beantown Rd. Waldorf, MD 20601)
Because of his love of reading, Memorial contributions may
be made to the Mountain Top Public Library, PO Box 217,
Thomas WV 26292. Please include Library Operating Fund/Burnell
in the memo. |
