1895 - 1896 - Marries
first cousin Minnie Dora Kittle ca 1895 - 1896 based on
birth of son Sherman. Unable to locate marriage
record. |
| |
About web pages
George's first marriage was to
his first cousin Minnie Dora Kittle. When it comes to first
cousins marrying, it causes a problem for me creating their web pages.
In my family tree, both George and Minnie carry an equal weight.
Therefore, emphasizing one side of the family tree over the other, makes
no sense.
If I only create one page for both, it simplifies things. I do
this if the surviving spouse does not remarry and have more children.
In this instance, George W Isner married again after Minnie Dora's death
and had ten more children. Providing this
information on Minnie's page makes no sense because these are not her
children.
If I place the same information for all children on each of the separate
pages for Minnie and George, I will have to update two web pages every
time there is an update. This is tedious and makes the margin for
error greater.
Therefore, on
Minnie Dora Kittle's page, I will place
the history of the children she had with George W Isner, On George
W Isner's page will be the children he had with his second wife Malissa
Jane Smith. Shared history of George W Isner and Minnie Dora
Kittle will be on both pages since that information is pretty much
static. |

About Christopher's death
https://law.justia.com/cases/alabama/supreme-court/1995/1930866-1.html
Accessed October 29, 2022 |
.........In the early morning
hours of June 6, 1992, Christopher ("Chris") Wheeler, age
13, was a passenger in an automobile driven by Jason Colley,
then age 15. He was killed when Jason lost control of the
vehicle and the vehicle struck a group of trees.
Chris and Jason were friends and neighbors in Lanett. On
Friday, June 5, the night of Jason's 15th birthday, Chris
was "sleeping over" at Jason's home. Both children were to
leave the next morning with Chris's parents for a trip to
Florida.
However, sometime after midnight, the boys decided to take
Jason's father's car for a ride. Jason drove, and they rode
without incident for about a half-mile before returning
home. Sometime later, but still in the early morning of June
6, Chris wakened Jason and the two decided to take the car
for another drive. While riding around town, a City of
Lanett police officer noticed their vehicle. Because Jason
had driven into an intersection marked "Do Not Enter," the
officer suspected that the driver of the vehicle might be
under the influence of alcohol and began to follow it. When
Jason saw that a police patrol car was following him, he
attempted to elude the patrol car, and a high speed-chase
ensued. The evidence indicated that as the chase proceeded
down Magnolia Road Jason's vehicle may have reached speeds
as great as 70 miles per hour. However, after crossing
railroad tracks at a high speed, Jason became frightened and
slowed down to 35 or 40 miles per hour. The vehicle then
came upon an unmarked road construction area, where Jason
lost control, and the vehicle struck two large trees. Both
boys were thrown from the car, and Chris suffered a fatal
head injury. The area of Magnolia Road "under construction"
was part of a project to upgrade the city's sewer system.
Lemond was the contractor employed by the city to perform
the work on that project............ |

1981 - According to one
person on Ancestry, Flossie and Emory Burkhamer (first
husband of sister Alta ) married in 1981. However, the
exact marriage date is not given nor is there a source given
for this information. Emory died in April of 1981, so
if they were married, it was not for long. |

Cora or Cara
as the first name.
----- I strongly think Cora's first name is Cora, not Cara,
as her obituary and Find A Grave (which has attached the
wrong family to her record) information has. All
of the early census records and Michigan City Directories,
through the 1950's have Cora.
Perhaps toward the end of her life, she may have had
dementia or Alzheimer's, where she was unable to correct
anyone who said Cara. There is also the WV accent.
Cora may have sounded like Cara. There is also a
granddaughter that was named Cara. She was
probably told she named after her grandmother, and probably
was.... with the vowel variation. Then everyone took the
name Cara for Cora. Daughter Barbara would have known.
However, she died a year before her mother. Barbara's
obituary names her mother as Cora nor Cara.
John
Lofflin's first name ----
John's original first name was Garland. It appears as
Garland on the census records for 1920 and 1930 and for the
first few years John and Cora were living in Dearborn, in
1939 and 1941 City Directories. Then Garland changed
his name to John.

Family love of trains turns
house into rail display
By Bonita Formwalt
Baltimore Sun, Dec 29, 1998 |
While many families enjoy the
holiday custom of a model train chugging around the family
Christmas tree, Cynthia and Wayne Greenstreet of Harundale
have taken the tradition to a different level: Their trains
chug around the family home.
Since moving to their Fitzallen Avenue home four years ago,
the Greenstreets have installed hundreds of feet of model
train track outside their house, constructing a route that
travels from their front to back yard.
Creating a train garden that neighbors and strangers enjoy
has been a labor of love for a couple with strong ties to
the railroad. Wayne Greenstreet is an engineer with Conrail,
riding the Baltimore-Harrisburg route. His wife
affectionately refers to him as a "rail fanny," traveling
all over the state, taking photos of old and new trains. As
a young man, he worked to help restore the Freedom Train on
display in the B&O; Railroad Museum in Baltimore.
A train lover herself, Cynthia has fond memories of a
childhood in Detroit where hopping on a train promised
thrilling adventures. One of her great-grandfathers worked
on the Santa Fe line.
Wayne "likes trains and I like trains," she explains.
This commitment of time and money is something they've
passed on to their daughters, Amy, 18, and Shannon, 14. The
girls don't quite have the passion for trains that Mom and
Dad share, but the trains are still a family project.
When the girls were younger, the family made do with indoor
tracks, but eventually the hobby worked its way outdoors.
Authentic train signals dot the landscape where the "G"
scale tracks are installed on stone beds just like the real
thing. A train village is under construction, a project that
will last at least through the summer. Although decorated
for Christmas, the garden is permanent.
During the holidays, the display draws crowds that patiently
wait for the trains to return to the front of the house from
a trip to the hidden recesses of the back yard. Visitors can
catch a glimpse of the trains in action only when Wayne is
home to take control as the engineer.
"Sometimes the kids in the neighborhood will knock on the
door to see when the trains will run. Pretty soon we'll have
to put up a sign with the train schedule," said Cynthia. |

Obituary for
Thurman "Sonny" Isner
https://www.theintermountain.com/obituaries/2016/08/thurman-sonny-isner/
Accessed November 13, 2022 |
Thurman “Sonny” Isner passed away surrounded by family
Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, in John Hopkins University Hospital
in Baltimore, Md. Although Sonny fought valiantly, he lost
his battle with lung cancer.
Sonny chose to be cremated, and his remains will be interred
in the Isner Cemetery at a later date.
Thurman Isner and Leona Marie Isner were blessed with their
first son, Thurman Delton Isner, March 23, 1952, in Elkins.
He was surrounded in life by his loving siblings, Betsy,
Vallie, Sharon, Earl, Richard, Bonnie, Johnette and Randy.
His sister, Vallie, gave him the nickname “Sonny” when he
was little, and it stayed with him throughout his entire
life.
Sonny is survived by his ever supportive and loving wife,
Deborah Ann Kukla Isner, who resides in Laurel, Md. He met
his beautiful wife when he was 18. Debbie knew the day she
first saw Sonny that he was the man she was going to marry,
and on Aug, 18, 1973, she did just that.
Sonny and Debbie were blessed with two amazing children.
Jessica was born in February 1977. Matthew followed 2 1/2
years later, in September of 1979.
Sonny and Debbie watched their daughter marry her high
school sweetheart, Jason Byrd, in 1996. Jessica and Jason
welcomed their son, Bryson, in November of 2005. Bryson was
the light of Sonny’s life, and he treasured every day with
him.
Debbie and Sonny received another special gift in September
2012. When Matthew married his wife, Chrissy, Sonny and
Debbie inherited a second grandson, Matthew’s stepson, Liam,
who is now 16.
A proud West Virginian from birth, Sonny graduated from
Elkins High School in 1970. He was a huge West Virginia
Mountaineers fan, loved playing sports, especially
basketball and rooted for the Washington Redskins for a very
long time.
Sonny fought through polycystic kidney disease. He survived
through two different kidney transplants; one in 1984 and
one in 1991. His second kidney lasted more than 25 years.
Sonny respected and honored his donor every day of his life.
Sonny was a very hard worker. He worked in construction,
specializing in aluminum and vinyl siding. He frequently
traveled from West Virginia to Maryland for work, which is
how he ended up in Laurel. He was even able to pass the
knowledge he had down to his son and son-in-law.
Sonny was a great man with a wicked sense of humor. He loved
making people laugh, which is why his extended family from
Facebook was so important to him. Sonny loved all things old
style – especially VW Beetles and Campers. He loved caving,
sports, being outdoors and truly loved camping with family
and friends. He was even known for giving a good scare a
time or two … or three.
What Sonny loved most was his family. He was a father figure
to so many people. Sonny was always one to be a loving
parent – even to kids that weren’t biologically his. His
love for his wife was unyielding. Even at his sickest, he
would still look at Debbie, his wife of almost 43 years,
with almost a sort of awe and tell her how beautiful she
was. He meant it.
Please join with Sonny’s family as they celebrate his life
with a barbecue Saturday, Aug. 13, from 3-7 p.m. at his
sister’s residence at 112 Wilson St. in Elkins. As per
Sonny’s request, this is a very informal event so don’t
dress up! We encourage family and friends to gather to share
stories, memories, and laughter in Sonny’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to
the National Kidney Foundation or the Free to Breathe
Foundation. |
