Obituary for
Virginia "Ginny" Simmons Trinkle
https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/dailypress/name/virginia-trinkle-obituary?id=17314188
Accessed June 29, 2023 |
Ginny Trinkle died in her home
during Home Hospice care on Friday, 19 June 2009, after a
long battle with bone cancer. Her family and best friends
were at hand. She was the widow of Major (Retired) Edwin
Trinkle, USAF.
Ginny was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt,
sister-in law, grandmother, and friend. She was born on Dec.
27, 1927, in Huttonsville, W.Va., and was raised lovingly by
her mother, Eula M. Simmons. She graduated from Tygart
Valley High School and began work with the U.S. Civil
Service at Langley AFB in Hampton Va., in 1945.
She married Air Force Tech Sergeant Edwin Trinkle of
Allentown, Pa., on July 25, 1947, at the historic Fort Myer
Chapel in Arlington, Va. Shortly after her marriage, Ginny
joined Ed, who was stationed at Bolling AFB in Washington,
D.C. They were transferred overseas to Rio de Janerio,
Brazil, in 1949. Since 1952, Ginny and her two sons lived
with her husband in Maryland, Paris (France), Illinois, and
Delaware.
After Major Trinkle retired from the Air Force in 1964, the
family moved from Dover AFB, Delaware to Vienna, Va.
Thereafter they joined the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Vienna. Ginny was an active member of the church hospitality
staff and taught Sunday school for several years. Upon the
death of her husband in 1973, Ginny began work at the
central Postal Facility in Merrifield, Va., until 1999.
Several years after her retirement, she moved from Northern
Virginia to the Rainbrook Villas in Yorktown in 2002.
Ginny was an active member of the neighborhood coffees,
celebrations, volunteer at the York County Bargain Box, and
the Red Hat Society.
She was known to all as a gentle, loving, and caring
neighbor and friend.
Ginny is survived by her two sons and their wives, Edwin R.
and Marky Trinkle of Marietta, Ga., Gary L. and Alison
Mascalo-Trinkle of Yorktown; one grandson, Peter Alois
Trinkle of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Ruth Simmons of
Haughton, La.; four nieces, Louella Smith of Fairfax, Va.,
Barbara Simmons of Santa Barbara, Calif., Barbara Lennon and
Patty Hanley of Norfolk, Va.; and five nephews, Ron Simmons
of Tacoma, Wash., Louis F., and Bobby Trinkle, both of
Allentown, Pa., David and Michael Carr, both of St.Croix,
U.S. Virgin Islands.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 23 June
2009, at Saint Mark's Lutheran Church, 118 Old York Hampton
Hwy., Yorktown, VA. The family will receive friends
one hour prior to the service. Friends and Family are
invited to a reception following the service at Saint
Mark's. The second service at the Fort Myer Chapel and
graveside funeral at Arlington National Cemetery in
Washington, D.C., will be conducted at a date to be
determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites your donation to the
Peninsula Hospital Hospice Center, 12420 Warwick Blvd.,
Suite 6E, Newport News, VA 23606. These people are
truly…angels.
