Nancy K. Riffle, age 77, passed
away on Monday, December 14, 2015 in Medina.
Nancy was born February 24, 1938, in Cleveland, OH to the
late William and Hilda (Gottschling) Thompson.
She retired from a supervisor position at the State Welfare
Department in Cuyahoga County. Nancy loved to play the piano
and took delight in her music. She enjoyed playing Bingo and
traveling to Florida. But most of all, she loved her furry
companion, Mitzi.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alva Al, who
worked at the GM Parma Plant; nephews Matthew and William
Thompson; two great nieces; and brother William (Nancy)
Thompson.
Family will receive friends Thursday, December 17th, from
6-8pm at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St,
Medina. Burial will take place Friday, December 18th at
11:00am, at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Rd, North
Olmsted, (please meet at cemetery front gate). In lieu
of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society, 525 N. Broad St, Canfield, OH 44406. |

Carolyn
June Riffle, 77, a former resident of Garrettsville
and for the past five years a resident of Ravenna,
passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at her
residence at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
She was born January 6, 1938 in Elkins, West
Virginia, a daughter of the late Amos Ross and Verda
Irene (Swecker) Arobogast. On September 1, 1956 in
Huttonsville, WV she was united in marriage to the
late Arling William Riffle, Sr.
She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Gromley of
Ravenna, OH, and three sons, Jack Riffle of Medina,
OH, Richard (Leslie) Riffle of Phoenix, AZ, and
Michael (Michelle) Riffle of Garrettsville, OH |
and one sister, Marilyn
(William) Waybright of Clinton, OH.
Preceding her in death were one son, Arling William Riffle,
Jr., three sisters, Maxine Wood, Jewell (Edward) Michaels,
Mary (Glen) Brown, and two brothers, Donald M and Eugene C
Arbogast.
Mrs. Riffle was a homemaker and had been employed as a
grocery clerk and bank teller for several local businesses.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from
11 1 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation
Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231.
Services will follow at 1 at the funeral home. Burial will
be in Park Cemetery. |

at his residence. He was born October 23, 1949 in
Pennsylvania to Vernon & Yvonne Gromley. Bruce was a

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his
family and friends.

Louise Riffle Shrout, 88, a resident of Monterville,
passed from this life Friday, October 28, 2022, at
home surrounded by family and under the care of West
Virginia Caring.
Ava was born Friday, April 20, 1934, in
Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Cecil Riffle
and Janie Green Riffle. She married James Junior
Shrout who preceded her in death in 2000. They were
married for over fifty years.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Kathy
Raines, Charles Shrout, and Hunter Howell, several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren, and five siblings, Alva
Riffle, Arnold Riffle, Mary Barrick, Orville Riffle,
and Neva Stanbrough. |
Ava attended school and obtained
her GED in Randolph County. She had been employed as a cook
at Snowshoe Resort. Ava like to cook, clean, and sew. She
was known for her love of all animals. Ava was a lifetime
member of Point Mountain in Monterville.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home
Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 10:30 am until 11 am, the
funeral hour. Rev. Marshall Williams will officiate and
interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery. |

16, 2016 at home surrounded by family.
Vonda was born Wednesday, April 1, 1953 in Elkins, a
daughter of the late James Junior Shrout and Ava
Louise Riffle Shrout who survives in Monterville.
She was married to Bud Henline who preceded her in
death.
Left to cherish her memory are seven children,
Angela Raines and husband Jack of Belington, Richard
Bika and girlfriend Christina Beverage of
Monterville, Alan Henline and wife Pam of Omaha, NE,
Trudy Harvey and husband Jimmy of Morgantown, Teresa

Vonda attended school and graduated high school in Virginia.
She had worked for Beta Shoe Company and as a secretary for
the Air Force Recruiter in Elkins. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of Point Mountain Church where she had
served as a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed all sorts of
crafting and making jewelry and dolls. She was very involved
with the ladies of the Valley Head and Mingo communities in
preparing meals for bereaving families. She loved her
puppies too; Slugger, Precious, and Rascal.
A visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home
Monday, March 21, 2016 from 11A-1P, the funeral hour.
Rev. Marshall Williams will officiate and interment will
follow in Mingo Cemetery. |

Paul J. Barrick, 72, of
Hinckley, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Cleveland. He
was born October 31, 1936 in Bemis, West Virginia.
Paul was a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He
was a BSA volunteer and was involved in Teamsters. Paul
enjoyed camping and traveling, and was a good family man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mary (nee
Riffle) Barrick; sons, John Barrick of Virginia, Paul
(Nicole) Barrick of Olmsted Falls; daughters, Anna Marie
Barrick of Hampton, Virginia, Eloise Barrick of Hopewell,
Georgia, and Geraldine Barrick of Mill Creek, West Virginia;
grandchildren, Benjamin, Nathan, and Leilah; sister, Dorothy
(Guy) Sentz of Pennsylvania; and brother, Thomas (Chris)
Barrick of Shinnston West Virginia; numerous nieces and
nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and
Florence (nee Paugh) Barrick; and brothers, Walter, Phillip
and Robert.
Friends may call at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center
Road (Rt. 303 at I-71), Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 2 to 4 and
6 to 8 P.M. Friends may also call Monday, May 4, 2009 at 10
until the 11 A.M. funeral service at Granger United
Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Joyce officiating. Burial will
be in Maple Hill Cemetery. |

are like ghosts. They do not appear in city directories.
They do not appear to be in contact with each other through
directories, even with Mary. No presence in any
databases on ancestry other than obituary for father. Only
Paul appears in high school yearbook in Medina. No other
Barrick's. No marriage records that I can find.
All of the grandchildren belong to son Paul.
Were the other children adopted and actually have different
last names?????? Was Paul Jerry Riffle married to
someone first and these are his children from his first
marriage??? Do they even really exist??

Gary J.
Riffle, 43, of Garrettsville, passed away suddenly
at his home on December 9, 2015. He was born on June
9, 1972 in Ravenna to Orville and Janis (Sopata)
Riffle.
He was a great dad to his daughter! Gary was always
willing to lend his time and talent to family and
friends. He was much sought after for his mechanical
and body work abilities. Gary could fix anything. He
played his guitar at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at
Mass in his youth.
Gary was survived by his parents; daughter, Amanda
Riffle of Garrettsville; her mother, Lisa Patterson
of Kent; |
brother, Scott (Tracy) Riffle of
Atwater; sister, Amy Riffle of Garrettsville; niece, Hannah
and nephew, Evan.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

WILLIS L. "WILLIE" THOMAS, 75,
of Streetsboro, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009 at
Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.
He was born October 28, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late
Frank and Alice (Nixon) Thomas.
Willie has lived in Streetsboro for over 30 years and
retired as a supervisor for Copperweld Steel in Warren. His
enjoyment in life was spending time with his children and
grandchildren.
Survivors include his son Travis (Sandy) Thomas of
Streetsboro, grandchildren Megon, Sydney, Jeffery, Ryan,
Travis, Jr., brother Ronald Thomas of Mantua and sister
Stella Borinas of Poland, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife Shirley Thomas in October of 2008, daughter Connie
Thomas, brother Raymond Thomas and sister Virginia Boose.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Streetsboro, Ohio. |

Gerald Lee Riffle, age 54, of
Catham Township, Ohio, formerly of Randolph County, died
Monday, May 10, 1999, in Medina General Hospital, following
a sudden illness.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of
the LaGrange Community Church, the Disabled American
Veterans No. 72 of Medina, Ohio, and was a veteran of the U.
S. Army.
Mr. Riffle was born April 5, 1945, in Randolph County, a son
of the late Cecil and Janie Green Riffle.
He married Rebecca Sage-Vaughn, formerly of Slatyfork.
Surviving him are his wife; a daughter, Phyllis Johnson, of
Burlington, North Carolina; a son, Michael Collins,
Hatfield, Pennsylvania; two stepsons, Johnny Vaughn,
Wilmington, Delaware, and Heath Vaughn, Randolph, Ohio; five
sisters, Ava Shrout, Monterville, Mary Barrick, Hinckley,
Ohio, Shirley Thomas, Streetsboro, Ohio, Neva Stanboro,
Dunedin, Florida, and Karon New, Huttonsville; three
brothers, Alva Riffle, Medina, Ohio, Arnold Riffle, Arcanum,
Ohio, and Orville Riffle, Garretsville, Ohio; six
step-sisters, Darlene Thompson Huttonsville, Lola Sharp,
Judy Arbogast, Della Brown, and Ruby Lindsay, all of Valley
Head, and Louise Croston, Mill Creek; six step-brothers,
Robert, Willie, Thomas, Stanley and John Lindsay, all of
Valley Head, and Billie Lindsay, Huttonsville; four
grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arling Riffle, and a
granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the F. E. Runner Funeral Home
in Elkins Friday afternoon by the Rev. Marshall Williams.
Burial was at Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville. |
