Obituary for
Anita Fay Pursley
The Marion Star,
Marion, OH, Thu Aug 31, 2006, pg2 |
CALEDONIA -- Anita Fay Pursley,
age 86, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at
Heartland of Marion after a long struggle with Alzheimer's
Disease.
Anita was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Sandyville, W.Va., the
daughter of Findley P. and Anna Kittle Currey. On April 21,
1937 [sic], she married Reedy
T. Pursley. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2003.
Anita was a faithful wife and a devoted mother who spent her
days taking care of her family. She enjoyed sewing,
quilting, raising a vegetable garden and growing flowers in
her yard. She made quilts for her children and
grandchildren, which they all cherish to this day. She
enjoyed get-togethers with her family during holidays at her
home and in later years at her daughter Shirley's home.
She enjoyed doing research on her family's genealogy and was
often found with a book on her lap studying about it. She
was a member of the Caledonia Church of Christ whose members
were very supportive of her and Reedy during their declining
years. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters in
Caledonia.
Anita is survived by her four children, Shirley (Gerald)
Baer of Galion, Eunice Vaughn of Marion, Thomas (Amanda)
Pursley of Brooklyn Park, and Roger (Susan) Pursley of
Lincoln Park, eight grandchildren,

Obituary for
Jacob T W Pursley
https://www.megercares.com/obituaries/Jacob-T-W-Pursley?obId=35174983
Accessed February 20, 2026 |
 |
It is
with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Jacob T. W. Pursley on January 28, 2025, at 22 years
old, at his Adult Foster Care residence in
Rochester, MN. Although the cause of his death was
not definitively diagnosed, it appeared to be
related to complications caused by the effect of an
illness on his many existing health issues.
Jacob Thomas William Pursley was born on May 11,
2002, in Minneapolis, MN, as a premature infant of
36 weeks due to complications experienced during
pregnancy. He spent most of his first year of life
in the hospital due to several health issues, which
continued to give him problems the rest of his life. |
It was observed as he continued
to grow, he experienced significant health, learning and
developmental issues that continued to baffle many
specialists in many areas. The root cause of his problems
was never identified even after extensive genetic,
laboratory and psychological testing, which caused many of
his treatments to be the doctors’ best educated guesses with
a mixture of failures and successes.
Despite his many medical and psychological issues, Jacob was
a very loved boy by his family, with determination, that was
very friendly with him smiling and offering hugs to all of
those around him. Like most boys, he was interested in cars,
trucks, trains, aircraft, and so on. His favorite foods were
just about anything with a lot of cheese and his most
requested foods were often Macaroni and Cheese as well as
grilled cheese and such. To get him to try any new food, you
had to relate it to something that he knew he already liked.
He is survived by his younger brother Josiah Pursley,
parents Bradley and Denise Pursley, paternal grandparents
Thomas and Amanda Pursley, maternal grandmother Sharon
Frantz, and maternal grandfather Ward Schultz, all who loved
and supported him well.
The sheer number of people who have touched and been touched
by his life is far too numerous to list, but we thank you
for your love, generosity, and understanding over the years
of his life.
A memorial service is being held on Saturday, February 8,
2025, at 11:00 AM at Grace Baptist Church in Owatonna, MN.
Pastor Matt Tolosa will officiate. There will be a time of
visitation prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM and a
modest luncheon will follow after the memorial service. All
who knew him and his family are welcome to attend. No RSVP
is required. The family would enjoy the gift of your
presence but understand if you are only able to attend in
spirit. |

Alice
Maxine (Currey) Wharton, 98 years old, went to be
with the Lord on August 2, 2022. She had been
staying with her son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and
Jennifer Wharton of Vienna, WV, where she was
receiving the best care.
Alice was a wonderful Christian lady, mother, and
grandmother and she will be sorely missed by all who
knew her.
Alice was born on February 10, 1924. She grew up in
a log home on a 300-acre farm on Horner Run, which
is just off Turkey Fork Rd. (Rt. 7) in Jackson
County. During WWII she met and married Alfred
Thomas Wharton.
Alice was a member of Hopewell Church of Christ,
also having attended 36th Street and Camden Avenue
Churches of Christ. |
She loved reading her Bible and
other books and working on crossword puzzles. Alice was
always ready for a Scrabble game with her children or
grandchildren; in fact, some of the grandchildren say they
learned how to spell while playing the game with her. She
enjoyed gardening and throughout her life took pride in
canning and preserving the vegetables she grew. Alice loved
sewing, various types of needlework, crocheting, and
quilting. But most of all she loved family and tried to keep
in touch by phone and sending cards and letters to her
aunts, uncles, cousins, and their children who lived out of
town. She was retired from the Wood County School system
where she worked as a school cook, mostly at Fairplains
Grade School.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Finley Perry
Curry and Fransanna (Kittle) Currey; three sisters, Anita
Pursley of Ohio, Aulene Frederick of Parkersburg, and Selma
Currey of Parkersburg; a brother, Dale Currey of Jackson
County; her husband, Alfred T. Wharton; and grandchild, Dawn
(Groves) Herrick of Pennsylvania.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Sonja Lee (Wharton)
Kokosky of Parkersburg; a daughter, Anita L. (Troy) Miller
Jr. of Vienna; four sons, Anthony T. (Phyllis) Wharton of
Washington, WV, Alvin L. (Jennifer) Wharton of Vienna, Andy
Dean (Shelly) Wharton of Hickory, NC and Adam D. (Ronita)
Wharton of Beckley, WV; 15 grandchildren, Crystal Walters,
Angela Miller, Trina Poling, Derran
Winans, Brenda Lemar, Dianna Hively, Kristin Wharton,
Brandon Wharton, Matthew Wharton, Justin Thomas Wharton,
Tyler Wharton, Braden Wharton, Kaya Wharton, Cyndal Wharton,
and Justin Wharton; 14 great-grandchildren; and 7
great-great-grandchildren.
Per Alice’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience
of the family. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home and Crematory,
Vienna is honored to serve the Wharton family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Parkersburg
Humane Society. |

Obituary for
Anita Miller
https://www.lamberttatman.com/obituaries/anita-miller
Accessed February 21, 2026 |
 |
Anita
Miller was born on January 2, 1945, in Zanesville,
Ohio. She was sent to her heavenly home on February
2, 2025, in Parkersburg, WV.
Anita graduated from Parkersburg High School in
1962. She attended beauty college in Athens, Ohio,
and this is where she learned to color and cut hair
for her family. She worked for a while at Montgomery
Wards and in the office of Dr. Eugene C. Hartman, an
eye, ear, and nose specialist.
She married Troy L. Miller Jr. on Jan. 7, 1966, at
Camden Avenue Church of Christ, and they were
married for 59 years. Anita quit working when her
first child was born, and she became a homemaker and
babysitter. |
Anita’s life was marked by the
love for her family and her unwavering faith in God. She was
an active member of 36th Street Church of Christ where she
taught countless bible classes, spent many years working on
Bible correspondence courses with strangers, made communion
bread, visited shut ins, ordered flowers, and organized
dinners for families after funerals.
Anita had several hobbies. She had an unquenchable thirst
for reading romance novels, history books, and the Bible.
Her house was filled with books to read to the children that
she babysat and her grandchildren. Anita loved gardening and
volunteered at the hospital while her children were in
school. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing games with
family and friends. Early in her marriage, many Friday
nights were spent playing cards and other games with close
friends. She spent many weekends camping with her family in
and around West Virginia.
Anita is survived by her husband, Troy Miller, and her
daughters Angela Miller and Trina Poling. She leaves behind
her grandchildren Cyan, Jade, Scarlet, Jasper, and Sage. She
also leaves behind her brothers Anthony Wharton, Alvin
Wharton, Andy Wharton, and Adam Wharton. And her half-sister
Sonja Lee Koresky. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Alfred Wharton and Alice Maxine (Currey) Wharton.
There will be no visitation or service. A private graveside
service will be held at the convenience of family. In lieu
of flowers, donations can be made to Potter Children’s Home
in Bowling Green, Kentucky at https://potterministries.org/donate/. |
