Kenneth
C. Nuzum, 94, of Urbana, died on Friday, April 4,
2014 in his residence.
He was born on August 19, 1919 in Leroy, WV, the son
of Claud Nuzum and Ethel (Kittle) Richards.
Ken was a 1938 graduate of Gilmore High School in
Jackson Co., WV and attended The Ohio State
University until 1941. He enlisted in the Air Force
and served in the South Pacific as a fighter pilot.
Ken flew 153 combat missions and was awarded two
distinguished flying crosses and two air medals
under Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

After discharge from the Air
Force, Ken continued his education at Ohio State University
and graduated from the College of Agriculture. He taught
Vocational Agriculture at Salem Local in Champaign County.
In 1948, he married the former Betty Hartley. In 1950, he
left teaching to sell Real Estate with the late John Baker.
He was a broker for more than 60 years.
Ken, a member of the Urbana United Methodist Church, was a
life member of the American Legion, former member of Lions
Club, Rotary Club, Champaign County Board of Elections, Boy
Scouts leader, past president of the Champaign County Shrine
Club, member of Harmony Lodge #8 F&AM, Antioch Shrine, York
Rite Chapter, and Scottish Rite
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son Robert K. Nuzum and
his wife Teresa of Urbana; grandson, Sean Nuzum, a student
at Ohio Northern University; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Carol
(Gene) Collins; step-sister, Freda (Ern) Warren;
step-brother, Verl Harris; step-mother, Estella Nuzum; and
step-father, Ralph Richards.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Monday,
April 7, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana,
where a Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m., followed by
a funeral service, with Pastor Walter Bruah officiating. A
graveside service will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 8,
2014 at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana United
Methodist Church, 238 N. Main St., Urbana, OH 43078 or
Shrine Crippled Children, c/o Al Johnson, 4373 Bump Road,

Mary
Ochs Kittle passed away on February 13, 2024 at
Hillspring Skilled Nursing Facility, in Springboro,
Ohio. She was 88.
Mary was born in Canton, Ohio to parents William
Fredrick Ochs and Evelyn Iva Orth Ochs. She grew up
in North Dayton and attended Northridge High School,
where she graduated in 1952 with honors. In 1953,
she married Harley A Kittle, Jr. whom she met when
her brother Harold Ochs brought him home with him on
leave from the military. They had three children:
Deborah, Daniel and William.
Her lifelong passions were gardening, creating new
vegetarian recipes, collecting clowns and teapots,
and her daily study of the Bible. She enjoyed these
throughout her life and passed down her collections
to family and friends. |
Mary broke the glass ceiling,
retiring from Sheridan Healthcorp, the largest
Anesthesiology group in the U.S. located in Hollywood, FL,
in 1999. She was instrumental in developing software for
anesthesia billing, with IBM, that propelled the growth of
the company. The development of her career began at
Kettering Medical Center, where she held the positions of:
Assistant Director of Medical Education in the 1970’s and
Recruitment for Sycamore Medical Center when it opened. From
there she went to managing the Kettering Anesthesiology
Group where she began the development of billing software.
Mary is survived by her children, Deborah Dusseau Razdar and
her husband Behzad, Pastor Daniel Kevin Kittle and William
Christian Ochs, II. She is survived by her grandchildren,
Jolene Hauser (Kris), Jacob Dusseau (Felicia), Whitney
Romanoff (Jeremy), Elizabeth Makroro (Ron), William Katadrik
(Natalie), Casper Kittle and Seth Ochs. She is survived by
her great grandchildren, Bryson McNamara, Coralyn McNamara,
Roselyn Hauser, Ella Dusseau, Dorian Dusseau, Oliver Dusseau,
Jaxson Romanoff, Ronley Makroro, Bronley Makroro, Faith
Makroro, and Sasuke Katadrik.
She is survived by her nieces, Brenda Markee, Pandy Boos,
Becky (Brad) Davis, Ellen (Allen) Worthen, and Kathy (Ken)
Stem and her nephews David (Rhonda) Boos, Jeff (Sheila)
Stutrud, and Tim (Kim) Himes, along with many grandnieces
and grandnephews. She wanted special mention of her
granddaughter and husband, Jolene and Kris Hauser, and her
niece Brenda Markee, for all the assistance they gave her
over the past few years. She recognized that they went over
and above for her comfort.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother Harold
Ochs, her sisters Nettie Boos and Lilah Himes, her nephew
Michael Boos and her niece Karen Stutrud, with whom she was
very close.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist
church and looks forward to the soon return of her Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ and her joyful reunion with family and
friends on the Resurrection morning. Mary’s ashes will be
interred at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
Mary’s celebration of life service will be held at the
Centerville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 456 W Spring
Valley Road, Centerville, Ohio 45458 on March 2, 2024 at
3:00p. Flowers can be delivered to this address. In lieu of
flowers donations can be made to: ADRA (Adventist

William
L. “Bill” Sheppard, 74, of 5468 Hinton Road in
Athens died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Princeton
Community Hospital.
Born in Elizabeth, WV May 15, 1938, he was the son
of the late Claude and Beatrice Kettle Sheppard.
Bill retired in 1995 as Administrator/Chief
Executive Officer of Princeton Community Hospital
where he served in that capacity since 1972. His
tireless efforts and strategic decisions in
recruiting quality physicians and |
giving them state of the art
equipment established the foundation that helped advance
P.C.H. to a much higher plane of medical care and services
for our community that we still enjoy today.
He was a 1956 graduate of Parkersburg High School, 1960
Graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business, and a 1968 graduate of the
Medical College of Virginia with a Masters Degree in
Hospital Administration.
His medical career started in 1964 at Thomas Memorial
Hospital in South Charleston, WV as Director of Personnel
and Public Relations. Bill then moved to Roanoke, VA to
serve as Administrative Resident at Roanoke Memorial
Hospital for one year. He returned to Thomas Memorial
Hospital in South Charleston as Assistant Administrator for
four years before moving to Princeton in 1972.
His military career began in ROTC program West Virginia
University. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army 1960 –
1962, and in the U.S. Army active reserves 1962 – 1966 where
he earned the honorable rank of Captain.
Professionally, Bill was a member of the Board of Directors
and Past-President of the West Virginia Hospital Association
and a Fellow and Past WV Regent on the American College of
Health Care Executives. Civically, he was a Paul Harris
Fellow and Past-President of the Princeton Rotary Club and a
Past-President of the Princeton Area Business Development
Corporation, Princeton Credit Bureau, Princeton-Mercer
County Chamber of Commerce and the Princeton Chapter of the
American Red Cross.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Hazlett Sheppard of
Athens; one son, Brett Sheppard of Seattle, WA; one
daughter, Heather Nielsen and husband David of
Charlottesville, VA; one granddaughter, Ellie Nielsen; one
brother, Eddie Sheppard and wife Ruth Ann of Mineral Wells,
WV; three nephews, Randy Sheppard, Eric Sheppard, and Brian
Sheppard; past foreign exchange student that Bill considered
his second son, Peter Vanhulle and wife Leen and their three
sons, Jacob, William, and Reuben all of Belgium; and special
friend, Mike Matherly and wife Cathy of Athens.
Funeral services, beginning with the West Virginia National
Guard Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council
conducting military honors, will be conducted at 1:00 PM,
Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the George W. Seaver Chapel
of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Larry Dyer
officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sheppard Family Cemetery at Bill’s
family home in Lerona. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike
Gore, Mike Matherly, Frank Smith, Leroy Stennet, Phil
Branson, Dr. Dana Olsen, and Mark Linkenhoker. Friends may
call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service
hour on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to Mercer County Animal Shelter, 961 Shelter
Road, Princeton, WV 24740. |
