Marriages and Children
Edward Barnett Dismukes
1858 - 1929

About the last name of Dismuke or Dismukes.  The use of the "s" at the end of the name can be considered correct.  The omission of the "s" could also be considered correct.

If you are doing research, use both variations of the name in your search.  Documents found, may use both variations of the name within the same branch of the family.  Even in cemeteries, the same family will use both spellings.  Instead of fighting over which spelling is correct, just accept that both spellings are correct unless you have original source documentation that can track the specific usage of either spelling over a period of time.

About the name Edmund vs Edward.  Many family trees list the first name as Edmund.  Again a practice of copying the genealogical work of others without looking at all of the documents first.  It is Edward.

If anyone would know, it would be Edward's second wife Willie, whom he was married to for 30 years before he died.  Why would she place Edward on his grave marker if it was not so.

Also, with this branch of the family, they do consistently use the "s" on the end of Dismukes.

1940 - Census sheet for 1940 is correct for Webster and wife Virginia.  However, the three other family members are supposed to have a last name of Osment, not Dismukes.  I believe Virginia or the census taker wrote down the wrong info.  I did cross-check the information with the City Directory for Birmingham for 1940.  There is only one Webster M Murphy with a wife Virginia living on Woodlawn in Birmingham.

The Webster F listed, should be Clarence E Osment.  Then Mary Osment, and then Frank Osment with an age of 22, not 33.
