Marriages and Children
Thomas Jefferson
 Dismuke / Dismukes

1829 -  before 1880

About the last name of Dismuke or Dismukes.  The use of the "s" at the end of the name can be considered correct.  The omission of the "s" could also be considered correct.

If you are doing research, use both variations of the name in your search.  Documents found, may use both variations of the name within the same branch of the family.  Even in cemeteries, the same family will use both spellings.  Instead of fighting over which spelling is correct, just accept that both spellings are correct unless you have original source documentation that can track the specific usage of either spelling over a period of time.

The name Emaline, Emeline, and Emiline - Another name with variations in the spelling.  Members of this family called each other Emma for short, so the full name in documents is rarely found.  One of the only documented sources of the spelling of this name, for this branch of the family, is the grave marker of Emiline Hause Dismuke wife of Thomas Jefferson Dismuke.  The name on her marker is Emiline Dismuke.  Therefore, unless someone can prove otherwise, with original source documentation, Emiline will be spelled with an "i" as the third letter in the name.

1850 - Prior to his marriage, Thomas was probably living with his father Edmond during the 1850 US Census.  This group of the Dismuke family cannot be found in the 1850 US Census.

1850 - After searching for an entire day in the 1850 US Census for Nancy Emaline Hause's family, I cannot find them.  I tried all variations of the name Hause, House, Hawes, Haws, Howes, etc.  I also tried each family member by their first name.  Searches were done in both GA and AL.

1850 - Father Edmund is found in the 1850 Alabama State Census for Macon County.  On this census record, there is a male that was around Thomas' age.
