Sterling Jackson Dismuke

About the last name of Dismuke or Dismukes.  The use of the "s" at the end of the name can be considered correct.  The omission of the "s" could also be considered correct.

If you are doing research, use both variations of the name in your search.  Documents found, may use both variations of the name within the same branch of the family.  Even in cemeteries, the same family will use both spellings.  Instead of fighting over which spelling is correct, just accept that both spellings are correct unless you have original source documentation that can track the specific usage of either spelling over a period of time.

Obituary for Eloise "June" Knight Dismukes

The graveside service for Mrs. Eloise "June" Knight Dismukes, 83,was held Thursday, April 1, at Old Springhill Cemetery. The Rev. John Thompson officiated with Chapman Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Dismukes died Monday, March 29,at Lakeview Community Hospital.

Born Jan. 16, 1916, in the Texasville community, Mrs. Dismukes was the daughter of the late James Alfred and Nancy Jane Carr Knight. She graduated from Blue Springs High School and was later graduated from Britt's Infirmary School of Nursing, where she was awarded her degree as a registered nurse. She was a former supervisor of nursing at the Bullock County Hospital in Union Springs. She retired in 1981 after serving more than 15 years as the Barbour County health nurse with the Barbour County Health Department. She started the WIC program in Barbour County. Mrs. Dismukes was a longtime member of the Springhill United Methodist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean D. Thomas of Birmingham; one son, John M. Dismukes Jr. of Tulsa,
Okla.; two sisters, Janice Baker of Pueblo, Colo. and Irene Vickers of Birmingham; two brothers, J. Winfred Knight of Ozark and Kenneth Maxwell Knight Sr. of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren, John Ryan Dismukes, Kyle Dismukes, Dawn Thomas and Lori Heldman. 

Pallbearers were Hugh Sparks, Joe Grubbs, B oe Grubbs, Bob McKinnon, Lee M. Reeves. Lavern Barrs, Martin Prewett, Jimmy Flynn and Harry Vaughn.
