Birth Record for Lacy Long
- I did not catch this record at first because the name
looks like Lay (indexed under Fay) and then some middle initial that does not
look like an "L". It was the parents' names that
confirmed this record. According to this record, Lacy
was born in Jan 1964, father Adam H Long, mother Nancy Long.

Lacy
Luge
Long and Lumie Wilmoth and Anna May Wamsley |
| |
In the 20 years between Census (1880-1900) records, Lacy married twice, had five
children, and lost both wives. The second wife, Anna May Wamsley, who gave birth to four of the children, died in 1898.
The first wife of Lacy, based on an obituary for Lacy's eldest son
Edward, is Lumie Wilmoth. Lacy married 2nd wife Anna May in
1891. Son Edward was born Nov 1890. So Lacy either
divorced Lumie or she died sometime right after Edward's birth.
When I tried to track down first wife Lumie Wilmoth, I could not
find her marriage to Lacy either in 1890 or in the years before
this. There might have been 2 Lumie Wilmoth's alive during this era.
The information is sketchy, and there appears to be no one
researching either or only this Lumie, because there are no family
trees that contain any credible information.
Then I thought about looking for son Eddie in the 1900 Census.
He was not with his father in 1900, so he must be with his mother or some
other family member. Nope, I looked for every Ed, Eddie, and
Edward by first name only, born around 1890 in West Virginia, living in West Virginia
and not one.....was Edward Daniel Long born in 1890.
Going back to Lumie, in the 1900 Census one or the only Lumie is
living with husband Jamison Canfield with some younger children.
Marriage records show that this Lummie Wilmoth married Jamison
Canfield, Dec 2, 1894 in Randolph Co., WV. The other Lummie Wilmoth
I had found, who married a George W McDaniel in 1895 in Barbour
County, was actually an Elizabeth Wilmoth. Not this Lumie. |
| |
|
 |
In the West Virginia Death Index, Eddie's mother is given as
Lumie Wilmoth. The death certificate is not yet
available online on WV Culture website. (50 year rule)
However, the Death Index was create by taking information
from the death certificates. Also, the book,
Harts of Randolph:
: Or Mostly Descendants of
Edward and Daniel Hart, sons of John Hart the Signer, with
Some Allied Families"
p. 285 compiles most of it's information for Lacy Long from
the obituary of Edward Long.
This book does NOT take into account that Lacy married twice
and the siblings mentioned in his obituary were actually
half-siblings. |
|
This book was also wrong about Lumie's parents. Her
1955 death certificate said David Wilmoth. Which is
also wrong. Her father was Benjamin B Wilmoth and
mother was Benjamin's first wife, Jemima Schoonover.
Benjamin B Canfield, her son, was named after her father. |
