  Regarding birth year of John Richard Corley

The first time John appears in documents is the 1900 Census with a birth date of Jan 1882.  This birth date would not be possible because his sister Julia was born Nov 1881.  His WWI Registration has Oct 25, 1882.  Which IS possible.  His grave marker and death certificate have his birth year as 1877.  1877 is very wrong.  If John had been born in 1877, he would have appeared with his family in the 1880 Census, which he does not.

John and Mary's marriage license have John's age at 26 years, which gives a birth year of 1883.
1910 Census has John's birth year at 1886.
WWI Registration has Oct 25, 1882
1920 Census has Johns birth year at 1882.

1930 Census has John's birth year at 1878.  This is about the time the birth year being reported is before 1880.  Both the WWII Registration and the death certificate for John have Oct 15, 1877.  Which is the wrong year.

The month October comes up consistently excluding the 1900 Census.  October then is most likely the month John was born.  For his birth year.  It is either 1882 or 1883.  NOT 1877!

When you look closely at the grave marker for John and Mary you can see there were some changes made to the birth years of both. Hard to tell what was done first.

Mary K. Coger, 63, of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of R. D. #1, Greensboro, Pa., died at 12:15 A. M. on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at her home.

She was born March 25, 1940 in Elkins, W. Va., a daughter of Goldie Young Corley of Coalton, W. Va. and the late Herman Lee Corley. Mrs. Coger resided in Waynesburg for the past 12 years and enjoyed crossword puzzles and fishing. In 1956, she married Denzil S. Coger, who died September 28, 1993.

Surviving in addition to her mother are five sons, Randall D. Coger of Hopwood, Pa., Denzil Junior Coger of Rivesville, W. Va., James Allen Coger of Mount Morris, Pa., David L. Coger of Waynesburg and Stanley E. Coger of Mount Morris; a daughter, Barbara Sue Palmeri of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Zelma Kate Howell of Coalton and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P. M. on Friday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P. M. on Saturday, September 6, 2003 with the Rev. Michael D. Flanary officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa

Zelma Kate Howell, age 58 years, a resident of Coalton, passed away Monday evening, July 25, 2005 in the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was born September 18, 1946 at Harding, a daughter of Goldie Corley, who survives and the late Herman “Mutt” Corley.

She was twice married, first to Earnest Lee Phillips who preceded her in death on May 2, 1985. On September 5, 1985, she was married to Timothy Howell, who survives at Coalton.
Also surviving is one son, Herman Lee Phillips of Crystal Springs, one adopted son, Roger Allen Leary of Coalton, one daughter, Goldie Michelle Phillips of Coalton and one sister, Sarah Lee Miller of North Carolina. Four grandchildren, Benjamin Phillips, Nancy Jane Pudder, Mathew Loren Pudder, Christopher Ray Deusenberry and several nieces and nephews also survive.

One Sister, Mary Kay Coger also preceded her in death. Mrs. Howell was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of the Belington Church of the Nazarene.
Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at the Tomblyn Funeral home of Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 28th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. F.L. “Wink” McQuain officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.

Goldie Michelle Phillips Lambert, 47, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Goldie was born Saturday, June 14, 1969 in Elkins, a daughter of the late Ernest Lee Phillips and Zelma Kate Corley Phillips.

On June 12, 2012 in Elkins, she married Harry Lee Lambert Jr. who survives in Elkins.

 
Also left to cherish her memory are four children, Nancy Jane Pudder and companion David Quinn Sr. of Charleston, Matthew Loren Pudder, Tommy Lambert and Billy Lambert, all of Elkins, five grandchildren, Haden, Leland, Aleena, Damien and David Marshal Quinn Jr., two nephews, Ben Phillips and wife Courtney and Chris Phillips, one brother Herman “Lee” Phillips and wife Vanessa, stepfather, Tim Howell and her pets, Junior the dog and Charlie the ferret.

Goldie was a graduate of Coalton High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed being outdoors whether it be camping or just hanging around her husband Harry while he worked on the car. Goldie loved spending time with family and friends. She had attended Gospel Light Tabernacle.

Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 5P-6P, the funeral hour. Rev. Roger Foster will officiate. The family’s request for cremation will then be honored.

Emma Mary Corley, 91, of Cumberland, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Devlin Manor Health Care Center surrounded by her family.

Born Feb. 9, 1917, in Wheeling, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Fred A. Hillebrecht and Sophia Rose (Miller) Hillebrecht. Mrs. Corley was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Jack Corley; two sons, J. Richard “Dick” Corley and Thomas L. Corley; and a daughter, Rosemary V. Morris. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred J. Hillebrecht Sr.; and two sisters, Mona Beaver and Virginia Haller.

Emma and her husband Jack were the former owners of Emma’s (E&J;) Bar and Restaurant. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Emma is survived by her sons, Jerry L. Corley and wife Shirley, and Mark S. Corley and wife Patti, all of Cumberland; a sister, Edith “Edie” Currence of Cumberland; three grandchildren as well as a great-granddaughter, Melissa S. Corley and a great-great-grandson, Xavier J. Michaels.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, June 2, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Father Milton Hipsley officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.

John William Tusing, 68, a resident of Junior, departed this life Thursday afternoon, July 8, 2004, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, West Virginia. Death was unexpected.

He was born Wednesday, July 31, 1935, at Weaver, the son of the late Allen Arthur Tusing and Mildred Corley Tusing.

On Oct. 31, 1953, at Junior, he was married to the former Shirley Ann Wilson, who survives. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, John William Tusing Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Junior, and David Lee Tusing of Junior; three daughters, Lynette Jean Hinchman and husband, William Dale, of Norton, Ruth Ann Hamrick and husband, Raymond, of Elkins, and Cathy Marie Rowan and husband, Gary Allen, of Mabie; three brothers, Arthur “Bud” Tusing of Teter Creek, Troy Tusing of Dartmoor and Homer Tusing of Route 38, Barbour County; one sister, Sylvia Zickafoose of Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were three brothers, George W. Tusing, Kenneth George and Eldon Junior Tusing.

He attended the Dartmoor Grade School and Belington High School, was a coal miner and worked for the Badger Coal Co. for over 20 years and later worked for the Clyde Bell Logging Co. at Mill Creek and the Petrice Logging Co. at Coalton. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and gardener and was the family mailman.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Doyle Neil Rider will officiate and interment will follow at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery at Junior. Mary C. Zickefoose, age 47, of Grafton, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Life Care Center of Westlake, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Cleveland and lived most of her life in North Ridgeville before moving to Grafton in 2002. She was a graduate of North Ridgeville High School. Mary worked as a machine operator for several local companies including Dreco, York International, USG and Avery Dennison.

She attended Elyria Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, bike riding and playing with her nieces and nephews. She was very involved with the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer awareness program.
Survivors include her parents, Darrel and Sylvia Zickefoose of North Ridgeville; brothers, Darrel Jr. (Donna) of Sullivan, Phil of North Ridgeville; sisters, Darlene McIe of North Ridgeville, Connie (Orison) Fields of Sheffield Lake, Diane (Darnell) Myers of LaGrange, Loretta (Joe) Scheetz of Sheffield Lake; 14 nieces and nephews; 4 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her niece, Crystal Fields.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Services will be held on Thursday at 1 PM in the funeral home. Pastor, Fred Robinette will officiate. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery, North Ridgeville. Mr. Charles Homer Tusing, age 72, a resident of Moatsville, departed this life Wednesday evening February 26, 2014 in Mansfield Place at Philippi. He had been in declining health for quite some time.

He was born July 5, 1941 at Leadsville at Randolph County, a son of the late Allen Arthur Tusing and Mildred Mae (Corley) Tusing. He had never married.

He is survived by two brothers: Arthur Ray “Bud” Tusing and wife Mary of the Teter Creek Community, Troy A. Tusing and wife Mary Louise of Dartmoor and one sister, Sylvia Jean Zickefoose and husband Darrell of Cleveland, OH. Also surviving are two sisters-in-laws: Betty George and Vida Tusing, long time caregiver Alta Croston of Moatsville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers: George Tusing, John Tusing, Eldon Junior Tusing and Kenneth George, and one sister-in-law, Shirley Tusing.

Mr. Tusing attended the Dartmoor School and was known for his appreciation of the simplest acts of kindness. He was a Protestant by faith.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington on Saturday March 1, 2014 from 9 am to 2 pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Lewis Bartlett officiating. Internment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Hospice 1002 South Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250. Virginia M. McDonald, a resident of Elkins, went to be with her Lord at 2:25 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2005, at the Davis Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born May 7, 1918, at Weaver, a daughter of the late John and Mary Dice Corley. On March 26, 1936, she was married to Leamon A. McDonald, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1993.

Surviving are five children, Jeanette Durrett and husband, Jim, Elsie Corica and husband, Tony, Keith McDonald and wife, Alice, Deloras “Jean” Gainer and husband, Harold, and Beverly Bibey and husband, Bob. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McDonald was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Corley and Herman “Mutt” Corley; and four sisters, Jessie Corley, Mildred Tusing, Leda Potter and Norma “Toots” Putter; and a loving daughter, Wilma Lee Hart.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be under the direction of the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. From 5 Mar 2005.

Mrs. Jeanette Elizabeth "Nettie" McDonald Durrett, 74, a resident of Harpertown Road in Elkins shed her pain and illnesses when she went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Sunday morning Sept. 12, 2010, in the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in declining health for the past three years and had suffered from many illnesses.

She was born May 17, 1936, at the Weaver Community, a daughter of the late Leamon Alfred and Virginia May Corley McDonald.

On Nov. 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jimmy Franklin Durrett, who survives at their home in Elkins.

Also surviving are one brother, Leamon Keith McDonald and wife, Alice, of Philippi; three sisters, Elsie Ann Corica of Elkins, Jean Gainer and husband, Harold, of Montrose and Beverly Bibey and husband, Bob, of Martinsburg; one aunt, Loretta Spencer; sisters-in-law, Ella Yeager of Lewisburg and Margaret Gutshall of Elkins, with whom she and her husband, Jim, made her home for the past three years and received care. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Lee Hart; special nephew, Hobart "Moe" Corica; and brothers-in-law, Tony Corica, Mervin Gutshall, Herman Yeager and Dewey B. Durrett, lieutenant colonel U.S. Air Force, retired commercial airline pilot.

Mrs. Durrett was a waitress in her earlier years and was also employed for the NASA Flight Center in Washington, D.C. Later in life, after returning to West Virginia, she worked as a cook in the Randolph County School system, from which she retired.

In her younger years she enjoyed motorcycling with her husband and was a Methodist by faith.

Interment will follow in the Talbott Cemetery near Belington.

Lee Jack Meehan, 20, was found deceased on May 1, 2010, not far from his home in Philippi, W.Va., where he lived with his grandparents.

The cause of death is yet to be determined. He was born Dec. 23, 1989, in Akron, to Brenda (McDonald) and Don Meehan. He resided in Ohio for much of his life and only recently made his home in West Virginia.

He attended Fred W. Eberle Technical Center in Buckhannon and planned to enter the Armed Forces after graduation. Lee was a member of the Church of Christ in Bellington, W.Va.

Lee leaves a sister, Heather Meehan of Fredericksburg; his parents, Don Meehan of Killbuck and Brenda of Marysville; grandparents, Keith and Alice McDonald of Philippi, W.Va., and Helen Meehan of Glenmont; uncles, Robert (Rhodora) McDonald of Akron, Ron (Shirley) Meehan of Glenmont and Dan (Julia) Meehan of Killbuck; aunts, Janet McDonald of Terrebonne, Canada, Mary Ellen Proper (Richard) of Killbuck, and Barbara Cappon of Brinkhaven; and several cousins.

A grandfather, David Meehan, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Killbuck Valley Christian Church.

Delores “Jean” McDonald Gainer, age 69 years, a resident of Kerens, passed away Tuesday evening, October 13, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born April 23, 1946 at Junior, a daughter of the late Leamon A. and Virginia Corley McDonald. On April 26, 1963 at Mountain Lake Park, Maryland, she was married to Harold J. Gainer who survives.

Also surviving are three children, Robert Harold Gainer and girlfriend Krissie of Kerens, Angela Dawn Gainer White and husband Brad of Elkins and Noah Adam Gainer and wife Jess of Kerens.
Two sisters, Elsie Ann Corica of Elkins and Beverly Bibey and husband Bob of Inwood, WV, one brother, Keith McDonald and wife Alice of Philippi, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Jeanette Durrett and Wilma Lee Hart. Jean attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a caregiver for the elderly. She was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elkins Aerie 2344. She was also an avid bowler and went to many tournaments and won a championship in Charleston.

Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Gainer officiating. Cremation will follow.

Obituary for Norma Jean Pudder Ash
NORMA JANE "JANIE" PUDDER ASH, age 61 years, a resident of Junior, WV, departed this life Wednesday evening, May 31, 2006 at the United Hospital Center at Clarksburg, WV. She had been in failing health for the past few weeks.

She was born Saturday, February 3, 1945 at Elkins, a daughter of the late Troy Layman Pudder and Norma L. "Toots" Corley Pudder. On April 18, 1964, she was married to Domnick T. "Donnie" Ash, who survives at Junior. They had celebrated forty-two years of marriage.

Also surviving her are two sons, Troy T. "Tom" Ash and wife, Evelyn, Junior, and Timothy B. Ash and wife, Rachel, Cassity, one daughter, Beth Ann St. Vincent and husband, Richard, Brentwood, TN, three brothers, Troy H. "Chuck" Pudder and wife, Joyce, Harding, Carl S. Pudder and wife, Gloria, Junior, and Darl L. Pudder and wife, Debbie, Harding, thirteen grandchildren, Holly, Amanda, Kayleigh, Elizabeth, and Domnick Ash, Holly, W.C. and Chuck Thompson, Hailie and Austin Arnold, Zachary, Ian, and Trey St. Vincent, one great grandchild, Leonna Ash, and several nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1964, was a past president of the Junior Elementary P.T.A. and the Junior Volunteer Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary, she had served on the Junior Emergency Squad, was a former mayor and councilwoman for the town of Junior, had worked as the Town Recorder and Water Clerk, had worked the election polls, was a member of the Aerie #2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, and was a life member of Belington Post #410, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. At 7 PM, Saturday, the Aerie #2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a fraternal service. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at 2 PM. The Reverend Doyle N. Rider will officiate and interment will follow at the Coffman Cemetery at Harding, WV.

Mr. Carl See Pudder, age 68, a resident of the Junior Community, departed this life Saturday morning, September 21, 2019 at his home. Although he had been in declining health, death was unexpected.

He was born August 18, 1951 at Elkins, a son of the late Troy Lahman and Norma Lillian Corley Pudder. On June 23, 1973, at Junior, WV he was united in marriage to the former Gloria June Pharis, who survives at their home.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters: Carla J. Bailey and companion John E. Jensen of Belington, and Charity J. Kittle and husband Joey of Belington, his twin brother Darl L. Pudder and brother, Troy “Chuck” Pudder and wife Joyce all of Harding. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Richard Alex Bailey, Skylar, Zachary, and Andrea Jensen; Lacie, Cadie, Joseph and Jasmyn Kittle, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Norma Jane Ash, brother-in-law Dominick Ash, whom he thought of as a brother, and his mother and father-in-law, Bill and Janis Pharis.

Carl attended the schools of Coalton. He was employed as a coal miner most of his adult life, working at various coal mines which included Bethlehem Coal, Carter-Roag, and lastly Federal Coal Company # II from which he had retired. He was a member of The United Mine Workers of America District #31 and a Protestant by faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 5 - 9 pm and again on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 8 am – 11 am the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Ronnie Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery near Belington. The family ask in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association at 1-800-LUNGUSA or at www. lung.org.

BELINGTON -- Max Edward Corley, 72, of Junior, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for several years but death was unexpected.

He was born June 14, 1926, in Junior, a son of the late Willis E. and Cleo C. Row Corley.

On Aug. 10, 1948, he married the former Jessie Gay Corley, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Howard Peek, Belington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Sandra Corley and David and Sharon Corley, all of Belington; two brothers, Jackson Corley, Belington, and William Corley, Copley, Ohio, and 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances Yvonne Scott, and one brother, Marshall Duane Corley.

Mr. Corley was a graduate of Belington High School and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was retired from Bethlehem Corporation's Coal Mine Division with 40 years of service.

He was Methodist, a member of the United Mine Workers of America and an avid hunter and fisherman.
