Robert
William Sagehorn, D.V.M., beloved husband, father and
grandfather, died March 11, 2017, after a long illness.
He was born in San Francisco in 1938 to the late
Elizabeth and Howard Sagehorn Sr. Bob was a graduate of
the California Maritime Academy as an engineer, Naval
Postgraduate School and UC Davis School of Veterinary
Medicine.
In 1962 Bob met the love of his life, Elizabeth Toby.
They were married in 1964 at the Treasure Island Naval
Chapel.
Bob sailed in the Merchant Marine for a time before
accepting a direct commission into the U.S. Navy. He was
a surface warfare officer, serving all over the Pacific,
including a tour in Vietnam. Lt. Cmdr. Sagehorn’s awards
included the Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart and
Bronze Star with “V” device. He retired from the Navy in
1980. |
After his military service, Bob
applied to vet school and graduated in 1988. He worked in small
animal medicine before joining Hills Pet Products as a
nutritional consultant. Dr. Sagehorn enjoyed his career as a
veterinarian and retired in December of 2004.
Bob was a proud resident of Old Willowbank and enjoyed many
activities, including working in the garden with his wife,
driving his 1952 MG TD, singing barbershop and doo-wop,
participating in two movie groups, reading, keeping up with
current events, visiting with family and friends, and hanging
out with a group of guys who were relentless in their search for
the perfect hot dog.
Bob also was very handy, and throughout their 52-year marriage
he and Elizabeth remodeled several homes and gardens. They also
traveled to Hawaii, Europe and China, and took a cruise through
the Panama Canal with a group of Davis friends. In 2014 they
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking their family
on a Disney Cruise.
Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth; their two daughters,
Elizabeth Sagehorn (Don Lipper) and Navy Lt. Cmdr. Catherine
Sagehorn; grandsons Rob, Jack and Ted Lipper-Sagehorn;
sisters-in-law Mary Sagehorn and Susan Evans; cousin Judy
Sagehorn Cuesta; and many other loving family members. Bob was
preceded in death by his brother Howard Sagehorn, Jr.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humor, told great stories and
always saw the best in every situation. He was unfailingly
polite and kind to everyone — he defined the word “gentleman.”
The Sagehorn family wishes to thank Carlton Senior Living Memory
Care and Yolo Hospice for their wonderful care. Please contact
the family directly for information about the memorial service.
Memorial donations should be sent to the Vet Med Class of ‘88
Scholarship and Endowment fund: “The Waltons’ Class of 1988”
V7D0426, UC Davis Advancement Services, 1460 Drew Ave., Suite
100, Davis, CA 95618. Please make checks payable to UC Regents. |

Beverly Ann Sagehorn Arslanian Resident of Union City Jan. 19,
1937 ~ Sept. 11, 2010 Died suddenly on September 11, 2010, aged
73.
Beverly was born in Oakland on January 19, 1937, the daughter of
Alden Wesley Sagehorn and Evelyn Mary Lux. She is survived by
her fiance‚ Jerry Price of Union City, son Michael Leroy Currie
of Hayward, and sister Judy Cuesta (Bob Diekon) of Cool.
Additional survivors include nieces Loretta Cuesta of Livermore
and Arlene Cuesta of Sonora and cousins Howard Sagehorn (Mary)
of Santa Rosa and Bob Sagehorn (Elizabeth) of Davis. She was
beloved by all.
Beverly was a fourth-generation Californian. Her
great-grandfather, Wilhelm Sagehorn settled in Oakland in the
1850s. He had many business interests in California. He ran his
hay and grain and flour business from a building on 6th Street
in Oakland and also used this building as the Academy of Music
and for the first theatre in the city.
Bev was raised in Oakland and was a member of the graduating
class of 1955 from Fremont High School. A resident of Union City
for the past 42 years, she spent most of her adult life working
in the real estate field. She was married to Bob Arslanian for
over 35 years until his death in December of 1998.
Six years ago she met Jerry Price and they have been a devoted
couple ever since. They traveled extensively, but also enjoyed
family time at home in Union City. Beverly had a dry wit, was
fun loving, friendly and gregarious and always looked terrific.
(She will be missed by Nordstrom and QVC.) She liked to
entertain, enjoyed good food and was a gourmet cook. She was a
dear friend to many and was always willing to offer a helping
hand. She was one of the good people.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, September
18, 2010 at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward,
CA. Chapel of the Chimes 510-471-3363 |
