Burial Site of William W

In July 2024, I received an edit
request for William W Parsons' daughter Lucinda J Parsons
Vanscoy, on the Find A Grave website. The request asked
for Lucinda to be linked to her father's burial site. Before
this date, there was no known burial location readily found
on the internet or in any other person's family records or
trees available on the internet. So I was skeptical.
The biography written in the book Parsons' Family History
and Record by Virginia Parsons McCabe says that William
and his wife Hester were buried on the homestead at the foot
of the Backbone Mountain. Unless there is a grave
marker of some type, the burial could be anywhere.
Except.... there is a marker for William W
Parsons. The marker was found as part of a Historic Resources
Survey along a stretch of highway that is going to have
construction on it. From what I am reading, and I may
be wrong, the head and foot markers were documented back in
1999. The report I have attached on this web page is
the updated report of April 2024. According to this
updated report, the grave markers for William W Parsons still
exist, but in poor condition.
Evidently the owners of the private property, where the
burial site is, knew of the burial. They left the
burial site alone and mowed around it.
Fortunately, for anyone wanting to know the exact burial
location of William W Parsons, Michael Jenkins from Harpers Ferry a member of the
Find A Grave community, saw this Survey Report online and
created a Find A Grave memorial for William W Parsons.
After contacting Mr. Jenkins, I discovered he was not
related to William W Parsons but wanted descendants to be
aware that this burial site could be lost, if the highway
construction encroached upon it.
A big THANK YOU
to Michael Jenkins for creating the Find A Grave Memorial for
William and requesting link edits which alerted me to the
burial site.
After I downloaded and read the parts of the report
regarding Parsons Cemetery ( name given to the burial site
of William ). I looked for the burial site on Google
Maps. You can actually see the burial site on the
satellite images.

Chances are good that
William did in fact move to northern California. Brother
Worthington already lived there and was doing well. Parsons
Family History book does have him residing in Salinas.
However, I am unable to actually track William to this area with
100% certainty. I could not find him in either the 1900 or
1910 Census in California. |
