Obituary for
Hallie Mae Armentrout Pritt Bryant
https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/26736607/hallie-mae-bryant
Accessed July 16, 2023 |
 |
Hallie
Mae Armentrout Pritt Bryant, age 95, departed this
life peacefully at home in Strasburg, VA surrounded
by her family on April 4, 2014.
Mrs. Bryant was born on August 15, 1918 in Elkins,
WV and was the daughter of the late Rosa Lantz
Armentrout and Stanley Armentrout.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Roy
Pritt and both of their children Patricia Shalap and
Gary Pritt and her second husband the Reverend Acie
Bryant. She was the eldest of eight children and was
also preceded in death by her brothers Harry
Armentrout and wife Hazel, Charles (Bill) Armentrout
and wife Goldie, sister Rosalie Phillips and husband
Raymond, and brother-in-law Clyde Hanna.
|
Mrs. Bryant's surviving siblings are Bettie
Hanna, Richard Armentrout and wife Audrey, Helen Davis and
husband Leroy, and Harold Ogden and wife Nancy.
Surviving is her son-in-law Michael Shalap and his two sons
Paul Shalap and David Shalap and wife Cheryl, and two
daughters, Beth Shalap and Trecia Hockman and husband
Michael, four great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, one
great-grandson-in-law and one great-great-granddaughter and
one great-great-grandson. Also surviving is her
daughter-in-law Hilda Pritt and her daughter Tammy Pritt and
husband John, and son Timothy Pritt and wife Jamie.
Mrs. Bryant graduated from Elkins High School in 1937. She
married Roy Pritt in 1938 and together they raised a family.
After Roy's unexpected death in 1961 she began working for
Montgomery Wards and continued to work there until her
retirement. She remained a resident of Elkins until 1980
when she then moved to Oak Hill, WV with her son Gary Pritt
and his wife Hilda.
Later, in 1986 after being widowed for over 25 years, she
remarried to the Reverend Acie Bryant and they had 18 years
together until his death in 2004. During their years
together they traveled and served the Lord at several
different Presbyterian Churches throughout WV. Mrs. Bryant
touched the lives of countless people through her good works
as a Christian woman and a life-long member of the
Presbyterian Church. She was a deeply religious woman,
active in many different outreach programs, and volunteered
her time freely. One of her greatest joys was spreading the
word of God to the little ones through Sunday School and
Summer Bible School.
Mrs. Bryant was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother and words cannot express how deeply she will be
missed by all of her family and friends. Although we grieve
her, we know her love will always be with us and that she is
free of these worldly bonds and has been reunited in Heaven
with God and her loved ones.
Services will be held at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian
Church located at 450 Randolph Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241
followed by a graveside service and interment at Maple Wood
Cemetery in Elkins, WV. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, April 8, 2014, and the Service will follow at 2:00
p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations
to please be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 Cork Street,
#405, Winchester, Virginia 22601. The Tomblyn Funeral Home
of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Hallie Mae
Armentrout Pritt Bryant. Condolences may be expressed to the
family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com. |
