  About Georgia.  This may be Georgia Ann Delaney b. May 18, 1909, Hambleton, Tucker Co., WV, daughter of William Clark Delaney and Columbia Jane Long.  Unknown what happened to her.  I am unable to find a death record between the time that Wirt married Mabel Arbogast.  Nor can I find any other records if she remarried.... IF Wirt and Georgia divorced.

Geraldine L. Pingley, age 87 years, a resident of Norton, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Colonial Place.

She was born April 5, 1928 at Norton, a daughter of the late Wirt Welch and Mabel Arbogast Welch. On April 29, 1946 at the Methodist Parsonage in Elkins, she was married to Troy A. Pingley who preceded her in death September 19, 1990.

She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Pastine and husband Joe of Mabie, two grandsons, Mark Pastine and friend Carla and Andy Pastine and wife Jessie all of Mabie and her special friend Gerald Martin.
Also surviving are three brothers, Charles Welch and Sterl Welch both of Elkins and Joe Welch of Mabie. Three sisters, Shirley Harvey, Sumter, SC, Carolyn Coxe, Lewisville, NC and Retha Chenoweth of Elkins also survive.

Also preceding her in death was one son, Roger Pingley, three brothers, Wirtie Welch, William “Bill” Welch and Robert Welch and two sisters, Helen Thomas and Margaret Hamrick. Geraldine had worked at Reidbord Brothers, was a housewife and a member of the Kynette United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 27th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bobbie Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Geraldine L. Pingley. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblynfuneralhome.com.

  I suspect that Roger may have been adopted.  In the 1950 Census, Geraldine and Troy are living together in Randolph Co., WV with no children.  Where was Roger in 1950?  On his marriage license with Donna Waggy, he says he was born in Virginia not West Virginia.  In looking through the Virginia birth records, there was a Roger Ray Arbogast that was born Dec 5, 1948 in Norfolk, VA.

Possible parents Willie Arbogast and Helen Virginia Shannon based on an obit for Willa June Arbogast Cross (1952-2010)

If this is the case, then Ruth may also be adopted because she was named as a sibling of Willa June Arbogast Cross in the obit.

Josephine “Helen” Welch (nee Madarena-Tenney) age 88, of Painesville. Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 30, 2021.

Loving daughter of the late Nicola and Janet.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd W. Welch, her son David A., and her daughter Cheryl A. Welch-Ford.

Devoted mother of Janet L. Welch-Butcher (Eugene A. Butcher, Jr.). Grandmother of five children, and great-grandmother of Aubrea and Chase. Cherished sister of the late Arthur and James Madarena, Floyd A. David A., Kimberly Welch, Alison Welch (deceased), and Steven H. Ford Jr.
Helen loved being with her family, and friends. Everyone loved to see her smile, and it would light up any room. She enjoyed crocheting, making, jewelry, and other family members that truly loved her, and her as well. Donation may be made in Helen’s name to Bella Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

WEST FORK — David Alan "Grizz" Welch Sr., 56, of West Fork, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.

He was born Oct. 14, 1955, in Painesville, Ohio, the son of Floyd Welch and Helen Madarena Welch.

He married the former Pauletta King on Nov. 23, 1974, in Painesville, Ohio. He was employed by Chevrolet of Fayetteville at Fayetteville Auto Park and was the president of the Rural West Fork Fire Board. He was also a cattle farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Pauletta Welch of the home; son, David Welch Jr. of Fayetteville; two daughters, Kimberly Neumann of Fayetteville, Alison Welch of West Fork; two sisters, Janet Butcher of Madison, Ohio, Cheryl Loma of Painesville, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Moore’s Chapel.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at West Fork First Baptist Church, with Pastor LV Vickery officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery in Elkins under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.

Alison Jayne Welch, age 29, of West Fork, Arkansas passed away Sunday February 2, 2020 in Dallas, Texas.

She was born August 20, 1990 in Fayetteville to David and Pauletta King Welch. Alison was a graduate of West Fork High School and a 2016 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a BA in Animal Science.

She was preceded in death by her father, David A. Welch Sr., maternal grandparents, Melvin King Sr. and Edna King, paternal grandfather, Floyd Welch and aunt, Cheryl Ford.

She is survived by her mother, Pauletta Welch of West Fork, Arkansas;
sister, Kimberly Welch of Euless, Texas; brother, David A. Welch Jr. of Fayetteville, Arkansas; paternal grandmother, Helen Welch of Madison, Ohio; three aunts, Patricia Williams and her husband Rick of Rome, Ohio; Pamela Eldredge of Glenpool, Oklahoma; Janet Butcher and her husband Gene of Madison, Ohio; three uncles, Lonnie King and his wife Sherry of Painesville, Ohio and Melvin F. King Jr. and his wife Sherry of West Fork, Arkansas; her nephew and niece, Chase B. Gillum and Cayla B. Gillum of Springdale, Arkansas; several cousins, and many friends that will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday February 6, 2020 at Moore’s Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday at Moore’s Chapel.

Charles F. “Charlie” Welch, Sr., age 88 years, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

Charlie, as he was called, was born September 6, 1931 at Coalton, one of twelve children born to the late Wirt and Mabel Arbogast Welch. In 1954, Charlie married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Shannon who preceded him in death October 31, 2017. They were married for sixty three years.

Surviving are four children, Teri (Welch) Petry and husband Terry of Madison, OH, Vickie (Welch) Patrick and late husband Jim, along with Vickie's partner David Hyatt of Ellerslie, GA,
Charles Welch, Jr and wife Valerie of Tacy, WV and Tina (Welch) Corcoran and husband Matt of Elkins. Charlie was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters also survive.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers and three sisters.

He was a Torpedo-man in the US Navy serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Cone. After leaving the Navy, Charlie worked for General Electric Company prior to his retirement. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, growing a large garden, wood working and carving. Charlie and Mary are reunited once again, strolling the streets of Heaven, hand in hand.

Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 16th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike House officiating. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Kingsville Road, Coalton, WV where full military rites will be accorded by members of the Navy Honor Guard, HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Robert L. Welch, Sr., age 78 years, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of Martinsburg, WV passed away early Saturday morning, November 19, 2011 at his home.

He was born February 5, 1933 at Coalton, a son of the late Wirt and Mable Arbogast Welch. On June 5, 1958 at Elkins, he was married to Juanita Poling Welch who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John Welch and wife Vicki, of Norton, Robert Welch, Jr. and wife Susan, of Martinsburg, WV, two daughters, Elizabeth Currence, of Huntington, WV, Carol Edmond and husband Roger, of Norton, four brothers, Charlie Welch and wife Mary Theresa, of Elkins, Bill Welch, of Painesville, OH, Sterl Welch and wife Patty, of Mabie, Joseph Welch and wife Mary, of Mabie and
four sisters, Geraldine Pingley of Norton and her friend Gerald Martin, Retha Chenoweth and husband Ronnie, of Elkins, Shirley Harvey and husband Virgil, of Sumter, SC and Carolyn Coxe, of East Bend, NC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death was one brother, Floyd "Wirtie" Welch, two sisters, Helen Rowan and Margaret Hamrick and one grandson, Eric Sturdivant.

Mr. Welch was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He had worked for Kelly Foundry in Elkins for twenty eight years before moving to Martinsburg where he retired from Smally Package Company of Berryville, VA. He was a Methodist by faith.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 22nd from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Walter Ellison officiating.

Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville where full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Robert L. Carol Ann (nee Welch) Edmond, born December 21, 1960, passed away at home in Norton on August 16, 2021.

Carol is the daughter of Juanita R. (nee Poling) Welch of Martinsburg and the late Robert L. Welch, Sr.

Carol is survived by her loving husband Roger N. Edmond. They were married on June 10, 1978.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her two sons, Jason Neil (Casey) in Audra Park, and Charles Robert (Holly) in Tallahassee, Florida; two grandsons, Devin (companion Erika) and Ethan (Erin); one granddaughter, Autumn;
one great granddaughter, Aurora; two brothers, John (Vicki) Welch in Norton and Robert L. Welch, Jr. (Susan) in Inwood; one sister, Liz (nee Welch) Currence in Martinsburg; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Judy Primavero, David and Donna Edmond, and her church family.

Carol was an active member of Kynette United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary. She enjoyed doing fundraisers for the church, such as candy Easter egg making and spaghetti dinners. She was also involved with feeding the homeless in partnership with World Vision at Wayside Methodist Church. Carol, along with her mother and her aunts Shirley, Mildred, and Carolene, enjoyed taking trips together to Ohio, Tennessee, and Italy.

The visitation will be held from 6: 00pm until 8: 00pm Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 19th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Phillips officiating. Funeral services for William F. Welch, 80, will be 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the Free Pentecostal Fellowship Church, 3138 North County Line Road in Geneva where friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of services. Rev. Fredia McGee will officiate services.

The son of Wirt and Mabel (Arbogast) Welch was born on July 5, 1934 in Coalton, W Virginia. A Painesville Twp. resident for many years, William passed away on April 20, 2015 at TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Twp.
William worked in the General Maintenance Dept. of WS Tyler Co. for 13 years, IRC Fibers Corp for 18 years, and the Pet Processing Center for 10 years.

Mr. Welch was a member of The Free Pentecostal Fellowship Church, where he was president and Sunday School Teacher.

He enjoyed reading the bible and camping, but most of all, he loved his church and his family.

William is survived by, children, Bill J. (Judy) Welch of Painesville, Rebecca Welch of Painesville, and James E. (Kathy) Welch of Madison;  13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine Pingley, Charles Welch, Retha Chenworth, Sterle Welch, and Joseph Welch, all of West Virginia; Shirley Harvey of SC and Carolyn Cox of NC also survive.

Preceded in death by, wife, JoAnn (Dellaria) Welch in 2011; parents; siblings, Wirtie F. Welch, Robert Welch, Margaret Shannon, and Helen Fox.

Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.

Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home of Painesville entrusted with arrangements.

Margaret Welch Shannon Hamrick, age 69 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006 in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 10, 1937 at Coalton, a daughter of the late Wirt and Mabel Arbogast Welch.

She was twice married. On March 19, 1954, she was married to John Shannon who preceded her in death in April of 1981. In August of 1983, she was married to Ralph Hamrick who survives.

Also surviving are six sons; Lonnie Shannon and wife Charlotte of Charlotte, NC, John Shannon and wife Jo Ann of Charleston, Bill and Steve Shannon, both of Elkins, Mike Shannon and wife Michelle of Winchester, VA, Tim Shannon and wife Rhonda of Elkins,
two daughters; Debra Westfall of Elkins, Martha Workman and husband Mike of Buckhannon and three step children; Debbie Hill and friend Brian Fleming of Vienna, WV, Junior Hamrick and wife Becky of Harman and Donna Hutton and husband Brad of Elkins. Six brothers; Bill Welch and wife JoAnn of OH, Bob Welch and wife Juanita of Marlinton, Charlie Welch and wife Mary Teresa of Elkins, Sterl Welch and wife Patti and Joe Welch and Wife Mary all of Mabie. Four sisters; Geraldine Pingley and friend Gerald of Norton, Shirley Harvey and husband Virgil of South Carolina, Retha Chenoweth and husband Ronnie of Elkins, Caroline Cox of North Carolina, 12 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Hamrick was a retired employee of the Randolph County Schools. She was a member of the Kynette United Methodist Church and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Randolph County Sheltered Workshop and Seneca Designs.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joseph Mininger and Rev. Walter Ellison officiating. Stephen P. Shannon, age 55 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.

He was born September 10, 1961 at Valhalla, NY, a son the late John J. and Margaret Welch Shannon Hamrick. He had never married.

He is survived by five brothers, Lonnie Shannon and wife Charlotte of Charlotte, NC, John Shannon and wife Jo Ann of Charleston, WV, Michael Shannon and wife Michelle of Winchester, VA, Bill Shannon of Elkins and Tim Shannon and wife Rhonda of Norton.
Two sisters, Debra Westfall of Elkins and Martha Workman and husband Mike of Buckhannon; one step brother, Ralph Hamrick, Jr. of Harman and two step sisters, Debbie Smith and husband Alan of Parkersburg, WV and Donna Hutton and husband Brad of Elkins.

Also surviving is a special friend, Peggy Kiger and his caregivers, Linda Kimble, Diane Wotring, and Chandra Martin and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Also preceding him in death was his step-father, Ralph Hamrick.

Steve had worked at Seneca Designs for over thirty years. He loved watching wrestling, Elvis Presley and was a world class trader. Most of all, he loved his family dearly.

Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday with Pastor Curlie Ray, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Ronald Lee Chenoweth, age 78 years, a resident of Kelly Mountain, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at his home.

He was born October 2, 1939 in Elkins a son of the late John David and Grace Weese Chenoweth. On June 24, 1961 in Elkins he married Retha Jean Welch who survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Danny Lee, Jeffrey Lynn, Jonathan Eric, Brian Roy and Elijah Ross all of Elkins; two daughters, Pamela Evon Gassnola, Elkins and Marla Kay Shoulders Belington; three brothers, Donald Glenn and Bobby Allen Chenoweth both of Elkins and Gary David Chenoweth of Buckhannon; three sisters, Estelle Goldizen, Elkins, Linda White of Ohio and Brenda West of Helen Wood, TN; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Richard Paul Chenoweth, one brother, John Robert Chenoweth and two sisters, Viola Higgins and Ida Ruth Stalnaker.

Ronald attended the schools of Randolph County and was a well-known Stone Mason for many years. He was known for his stone laying in the Elkins area and surrounding counties and his every day selling on the Trading Post program, (Ha, Ha). He attended the Good Shepherd Assemblies of God.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 30th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Ronald Lee Chenoweth. Jonathan Eric Chenoweth, age 48 years, a resident of Chenoweth Creek, Elkins, passed away Monday March 27, 2023.

He was born March 23, 1975 at Elkins, a son of Retha Welch Chenoweth of Elkins and the late Ronald Lee Chenoweth. He was married to Buffy Channell who survives.

Also surviving is one son, Justin Chenoweth and one daughter, Katelynn Chenoweth Cool and husband Dylan all of Elkins. Three brothers, Jeffrey “Jeff” Chenoweth of Elkins, Danny Chenoweth and wife Tammy of Virginia and Brian Roy and wife Stephanie of Elkins; two sisters, Pam Gassnola of Elkins and Marla Shoulders and husband Rick of Belington; a brother-in-law, Lee Channell; a sister-in-law, Susan Bohan and husband Charlie and two grandsons, Jaxson Chenoweth and Hudson Cool.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Chenoweth.

Jonathan was a miner at the Carter-Roag Coal Mine at Mill Creek and considered his fellow miners as part of his family. Jonathan’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons, Jaxson and Hudson. He also enjoyed working on vehicles in his garage and especially loved his Ford Mustang.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. The visitation will conclude with a brief service by Rev. Carol was born in Randolph County, West Virginia to Wirt and Mable Arbogast Welch on December 16, 1945.

She married Harwood (Woody) Beebe Coxe, Jr. on March 19, 1966 in Sumter, SC. They built their life together through thick and thin, spending most of their years in Lewisville, NC raising their three children and participating in many church and community activities. Carol created a loving home and thriving environment for their children. She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes and items for the home and did clothing alterations for a local Dry Cleaner. For many years, she worked the lunch register at Doomy’s Pizza and made many friends during those years. Her greatest pastime was inviting people to Lewisville United Methodist Church (LUMC). When you met Carol, before the conversation was over, she would have invited you to LUMC if you didn’t already have a place of worship in your life.
She was recognized for her years of service by the United Methodist Women of LUMC in 2015. When she moved to Oak Island NC in 2017, she immediate began attending worship and Sunday School at Ocean View United Methodist Church and when she moved to Ash NC she attended River of Life Baptist Church and St Andrews United Methodist Church. Being involved with a church family was a high priority, her faith an integral part of her life. Carol also prided herself on thoughtful written correspondence (including which stamp best fit the recipient) and being properly accessorized with a pin or brooch for every outfit.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband Woody, son Jason Harwood Coxe, parents, and siblings Geraldine, Wirtie, Charlie, Bob, Bill, Helen, and Margaret.

Carol is survived by her daughters Mitzi Coxe Swing (Dusty) of Oak Island NC and Amy Denise Coxe of Minneapolis MN, grandsons Joshua Swing (Hannah) and Joseph Swing (Sarah), great grandson Ryan Swing, siblings Sterl Welch (Patty), Shirley Harvey, Retha Chenoweth, Joe Welch (Mary), many nieces and nephews and her Coxe in-laws and their families.

A family graveside service will be held in Lewisville, NC at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity or place of worship.

Jason was born April 17 1973 in Charlotte NC to Harwood Beebe Coxe Jr and Carolyn Welch Coxe.

He was a rising Senior at West Forsyth High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was known for his overwhelming support for West Forsyth especially the football program. Jason was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his parents of the home, two sisters and a brother in law Mitzi and Daren Reich of Lewisville and Amy Coxe of Raleigh, his maternal grandmother Mrs Mabel Welch of Elkins WV and his paternal grandmother Mrs Eleanor Coxe of Wilmington and a number of aunts uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 4 pm Monday at Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel by Rev Ellis Rouse. Burial will follow at the Lewisville United Church Cemetery Memorials may be made to Lewisville United Methodist Church or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greensboro
