  1870 - 1871 - Elias marries someone in KY and son Charles is born May 22, 1871, Boyd Co., KY.

Son Charles is living with Elias' parents in the 1880 Census, listed as grandson. 

I looked for marriages in 1870 in KY records for Elias, with no luck.  Mother possibly died during or after child birth.  On both the 1897 marriage record for Charles (said mother born in US) and his death certificate (no mother given) he does not appear to know who his mother is or where she is from.  If Charles' mother was Rebecca Miller, he would have known.  Both Elias and Rebecca are living right there in Boyd Co., KY when Charles reached adulthood.

It can also be noted on the 1900 and 1910 Census, Rebecca consistently reports having 4 children, Not 5.  If Charles had been her son, she would be reporting 5 children.
  About the Marriage of Elias and Rebecca

There is a marriage record for an Elias Kittle and Rebecca Miller in 1868 in the database titled "U.S. and International Marriage Records" on ancestry.com .  Very little information is given for this record.  They might have been married in 1868. However, Elias is shown living with his parents in the 1870 Census and Rebecca is living with her sister Mariah Miller Reeves.  Both Census were in Boyd Co., KY.  Perhaps, Rebecca was visiting her sister when the Census taker visited?

Based on the Census information for 1870, I have concluded that this 1868 marriage record for an Elias Kittle and Rebecca Miller is for another couple OR the year is wrong.

On familysearch.org, I find another marriage record for an Elias Kittle and Rebecca Miller at Clinton Furnace in Boyd Co., KY on Mar 6, 1874. One of the witness' was Greenwill Reeves, the husband of Mariah Miller Reeves, sister of Rebecca. Clinton Furnace was a place of business.  Most likely Elias' employer.  See occupation on the 1880 Census below.

The Mar 6, 1874 marriage date is the correct date for his couple.  Their son George is born later that year in Dec 1874 ( Not 1873 )

The 1900 Census has their marriage year as 1875.  So the 1874 date would be correct.  Not 1868.

  Charles is not the son of Rebecca Miller.  Charles was born 3 years before Elias Kittle and Rebecca were married in 1874.

Charles is living with Elias' parents in the 1880 Census.  When Charles marries in 1897, he knows his father is from VA.  He does not know where his mother was born and puts "U.S." on the marriage bond.  Charles marries in Boyd Co., KY.  Elias and Rebecca are also living in Boyd Co., KY.  If Rebecca was his mother, he would know that she was also born in VA. 

In addition, Rebecca only reports 4 children on the 1900 and 1910 Census.  If Charles had been her son, she would have reported 5 children.

The Church of the Holy Family was the setting Saturday afternoon for the wedding of Sandra Margaret Humm and Raymond Ellsworth Jimison. The Rev. J. Gary Fulton officiated at the double-ring ceremony and Dr. Calvin Bowers presented the program of wedding music.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Douglas G. Humm of Chapel Hill. A media specialist at Strom Thurmond High School in Edgefield, S.C., she received her BS degree from the University of Western Carolina University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa.

The bridegroom is the son of Elizabeth Jimison of Jackson, Ohio and the late Raymond Jimison. An optometrist in Columbia, S.C., he is a graduate of West Virginia University and holds advanced degrees from Southern College in Memphis, Tenn. and UNC Charlotte.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore her mother's wedding gown of satin crepe accented with beads. She carried a spray of orchids. Maid of honor was Susan L. Scott of Chapel Hill. Bridesmaid was Denise L. Jimison of Batesburg, S.C. Best man for the bridegroom was Steven Smith of Leesville, S.C. Ushers were Alan D. Humm of Chapel Hill and Jeffrey B. Jimison of Batesburg.

A reception, hosted by the bride's parents, was held in the Carolina Room of the Carolina Inn. Assisting were Mrs. Edwin Stewart, Dr. Rosemary Kent, Mrs. Harry Gooder, Mrs. Steven Smith, Mrs. Alan Humm and Teresa Cox. Prior to the wedding a rehearsal dinner was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Harry Gooder.

Following a wedding trip to the Carolina Coast, Mr. and Mrs. Jimison will live in Batesburg, S.C.

Earl DeWitt Perry, Jr., 89, of Milton, WV, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013.

He was born September 25, 1923 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Earl DeWitt “Pete” Perry, Sr. and Gladys Kittle Perry.

Earl was retired from Union Carbide Company, South Charleston, WV. He was also a US Army veteran, having served in World War II and a member of Milton Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Raymond “Catbird” Jimison; a brother, Charles William “Bill” Perry; and a brother-in-law, Darrell Fender.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Meadows Perry; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jonny Winkler of Milton; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Judy Perry of Milton; five grandchildren, Melissa (Lee) Cyrus of Milton, Matt (Jessica) Perry of Montgomery, OH, Megan (Corey) Ciccarelli of Mooresville, NC, Katelyn Winkler of Huntington and Laura Winkler of Martinsburg, WV; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Ann Fender of Glen Allen, VA; a brother, James Robert “Bob” Perry of CA and a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine “Kati” Perry of St. Petersburg, FL.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Entombment will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens with a private family service. A Celebration of Life for Earl will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Milton Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Stewart officiating. Elizabeth Lou (Meadows) Perry of Martinsburg, WV, formerly of Milton, WV, passed away on August 16, 2022 at the age of ninety-three.

She was born on November 11, 1928 in Peach Creek, Logan County, WV, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Winifred Wallace Meadows. Libby was a member of Milton Baptist Church where she had worked and retired as the church secretary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl D. Perry; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Reba Meadows and David and LaVern Meadows.
Libby is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jonny Winkler of Martinsburg, WV; her son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Judy Perry of Bluffton, SC; five grandchildren, Melissa (Lee) Cyrus of Milton, WV, Matt (Jessica) Perry of Trinity, FL, Megan (Corey) Cicarelli of Mooresville, NC, Katelyn (Waylon) Roden of Petersburg, WV and Laura (Zachary) Nine of Martinsburg, WV; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Charlene Meadows of Wetumpka, Alabama; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Libby will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Milton Baptist Church in Milton, WV.

Margaret Ann Perry Fender, 90, of Henrico gained her wings on January 20, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Fender; sister, Elizabeth “Lib” Jimison and brothers, Earl Perry and Bill Perry.

She is survived by her sons, Toney Fender (Jan) and Douglas Fender; granddaughters Sarah Carden (Kenny), Abigail Fender and Rebecca O’Farrell (Austin).

Margaret grew up in Milton, West Virginia and was a 1950 graduate of Milton High School.
 After graduation, she moved to the Washington DC area, where she worked for the federal government for several years.

Later, she moved to Richmond, VA where she met Darrell Fender, whom she married in 1957. Together, they had two sons and were married for over 53 years.

Margaret worked various secretarial positions over the years, and retired from the Henrico County Tax Department in 1991. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and especially enjoyed spoiling her three granddaughters. She was an exceptional cook, winning several blue ribbons at the VA State Fair. Margaret was also an active member of Glen Allen Free Will Baptist Church

Roy G. “Sonny” Kittle, Jr., 79, of Barboursville died on Tuesday, October 16, 2007.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2007 at Woodmere Memorial Park Abbey of Remembrance with the Rev. Skip Seibel officiating.

Roy was born December 19, 1927 in Huntington, WV, the son of the late Roy G. and Margaret Sellards Kittle. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huntington.

He is survived locally by cousins, Dana and Irene Sayre of Barboursville,
Earl and Libby Perry of Milton and William “Tim” and Michelle Sellards of Culloden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the cemetery. Beard Mortuary, Huntington, in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at www.beardmortuary.com

George's year of birth and middle name

Despite two historic documents; the WWI Registration and Death Certificate that say George's birth year was 1873, it was actually 1874.  The family knew this and the grave marker has 1874.  Find A Grave has ignored this. It has placed the year 1873 as the birth year along with the wrong middle name of William.

First look closely at the 1880 Census which reports the age of 5 years.  This is correct.  He would be 6 in December. Next look at the 1900 Census, Dec 1874 is given as the birth month and year. 

Sometime around 1918, he birth year becomes 1873.

Middle name is Washington.  Look at WWI Registration.  Where "William" came from is unknown.  I could find no documents that have a middle name of William.

1920 - Census - George is still living in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH. On the Census sheet for Cora, she reports that she is a widow. I can only assume that the couple has divorced or separated.

I do not know why, but son Rudy is again reported as a female on this census.  The Census taker in KY was also one of the laziest I have seen.  Everyone on the page was born in Ashland, KY.  Highly unlikely.

Roger Owen Clayton Kittle, Sr., 62, of Ashland, Ky died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at his home.

He was born May 23, 1961 in Ashland, Ky a son of the late Harlan Ray Barter and Verna Tolliver Kittle. He was the owner of Clayton’s Towing.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two sons Roger Own Clayton Kittle, Jr. (Aleisha Spears) of Ashland, Ky and Ryan Kittle of Ashland, Ky, and four grandchildren.

A graveside service for Roger will be conducted Monday, April 15, 2024 at 1 PM at Ashland Cemetery. Lazear Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to have been entrusted with the care of Mr. Kittle.
