William was first married to Catherine
Mattie Sorters / Salters / Sauter / Souter who died in 1879 - 1880.
She died after Nov 1879 because this is when her daughter Minnie Mae was
born. Minnie's year of birth of 1880 on her death certificate is
incorrect because she appeared in the 1880 Census which was taken for
this family on June 26, 1880.

William's first wife Catherine Mattie

Some family trees list
Susie's full birth date as Nov 4, 1885 and death as Sep 19, 1910.
No source is given for these exact dates other than saying it was
from someone's family tree. Who knows if the dates are correct.
What is known, is the month / year of birth from the 1900 Census and
the death year from the cemetery records of Sneed Cemetery in Milam
Co., TX.
I did look through the TX death certificates and index for Susie,
but did not find her. Either there was no recording of her
death wby the county or the name was mangled on the certificate and
was indexed under some other name. |

Obituary for
William G Robertson, Jr
Austin American-Statesman, Jan. 21, 2007 |
William G. Robertson, Jr., M.D.
Born on Valentine's Day, 1917, in a small farming community
of Rosebud, Texas, to George and Ella Robertson he passed
from this life on January 11, 2006, in Luling, Texas, where
he had lived and worked for over a half century.
After graduating from Baylor University he joined the Navy
and served during World War II as an officer on the wooden
minesweeper, YMS 37, during the Allied landings at Anzio and
Salerno. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Joan
Kahler, in 1943. After being discharged from the Navy he
attended North Texas State University earning a Masters
degree. From there he moved his young family to Galveston to
attend the University of Texas Medical Branch. After
graduation he did an internship at Christus Santa Rosa
Hospital in San Antonio. He practiced in Austin for one
year, but found the city of 90,000 too big for his taste and
moved to Luling where he practiced until his retirement at
age 75.
During his practice he delivered over 3,000 babies, did
countless surgeries, made thousands of house calls, and
provided 24 hour on-call ER coverage for the community,
sometimes as the only physician in town. He loved every
minute of his job and was reluctant to retire.
Besides medicine his interests included ranching, gardening
(two acre vegetable garden), hunting locally as well as in
Alaska and Canada, golfing (he played rounds with Byron
Nelson and Ben Hogan as a young man), sports in general,
community service, and, of course, his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan Robertson;
sons, Dr. Ron Robertson of Atlanta, GA, and Dr. Will
Robertson, of Austin; daughter, Robin Nickells of Luling;
six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His sister, Nell, and brother, Dick, preceded him in death.
He will be remembered not only for his long years of service
to the community, but also for his constant good humor and
unfailingly good advice. T |

Some family trees have a
middle initial "B" or the middle name of Burleson. No where in
the historical documents does his name appear with a middle initial
of "B". Do not know where the name Burleson came from.
Also, some family trees have this Rufus mixed up with a Rufus Bain
White who married a Myrtle. |

Dowis, Charles Arthur
"Charlie", Charles Arthur Dowis, "Daddadee", " Grandpa
Bear", comfortably passed away on October 19, 2008 .
Born June 6, 1925 to Maving Arthur and Willie B. Dowis in
Marlin, Texas, he was ready to "take his trip in his
beautiful new car" to Heaven. A proud Navy WWII vet who
served in China, he worked as a civil engineer and at the
EPA . Charlie loved his grandkids, chili, Longhorn football,
pets, history, late-nights, tradition, piano, and lots of
chocolate milkshakes.
Survivors include daughter Elizabeth Perdue and her husband
Jim of San Antonio, stepchildren Thomas Hood and Laurel Hood
and her husband Jim of Oregon, their mother, Mary Dowis of
Dallas, grandchildren Louise Elizabeth Perdue and Brandon
Hood and his mom Rosi, and special friend, Norma Childers.
Love and thank yous to Dolores and Steven Martinez, Miriam,
Rosa, Ms. Rita, his VistaCare caregivers, Donna Denise, and
Dr. Bill Christensen of Dallas. Hook 'em, Dad! Well miss
you. |

1940 - Census - For some reason, the census
taking was fragmented Ellen and Dumon appear on one sheet (pg
2) and
son Jack appears on another (pg6). The way it is written makes
it appear as if he is the son of Isabel Navarro, which is not the
case. What matches it up is the house
number of 1019 on the house number column on the left. |

Calvin or Alvin
White |
| |
On the 1900 Census,
Ellen and William had a set of triplets. On this Census, the
names of the three at 2 months were Alvin, Calvin, and Unnamed Female. Because the female was unnamed, leads me to believe
they were probably waiting to see if the infants lived before naming
them.
The unnamed female was eventually named Pennie. One of the
boys, either Calvin or Alvin was eventually named James Henry White.
Death certificates for Pennie and James confirm the same birth date.
The third boy was either Alvin or Calvin. Or he was given another
name. There are no family trees that definitively have one boy or
the other, as having died as an infant or having been given another
name. Although they claim that infant Alvin was the child that
died and Calvin was named James Henry. |

- In 1930, while living in Oklahoma, the couple marry again.
Perhaps they were renewing their vows, although it was a district
judge who married them and not a priest or elder. Perhaps they
lost their TX license and OK required proof of marriage.
OR....maybe it was something regarding the Mormon faith. What
is odd is how they switched around their first and middle names. |

Obituary for
Rita Delores Turman Gregory |
|
 |
Rita
Delores Turman Gregory, elegant, graceful and loving
wife, mother of nine, best friend to all, passed
away this 30th of April, 2009.
Rita was born July 30, 1931 in Hubbard, Texas to Van
Turman and Grace Taliaferro.
She was the younger of two daughters, her only
sibling being her older sister, Joyce Turman Greider.
On December 15, 1951, Rita married the love of her
life and best friend, Buddy Wayne Gregory.
In 1960, Buddy and Rita joined The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed in the
Manti, Utah Temple on August 25, 1962. They and
their family have been active members of the church
ever since. Buddy and Rita lived in the home they
built for their family in Houston, Texas before
relocating to Alpine, Utah in 1998.
|
It was in both of these
well-managed homes that Rita's family flourished and
expanded to the awesome network of loving cousins, brothers,
sisters, mothers and fathers it is today. Rita's family was
her life; she would have had it no other way. Her home was a
place of gathering and Rita was always the life of the
party. She was a free spirit, a dancer, and had a beautiful
smile when you needed one most.
Perhaps her greatest achievement was instilling the love of
God and the eternal bond of family into the lives of her
posterity. Although she will be greatly missed, those who
knew her best find joy in the knowledge that the freest
spirit they ever knew is finally, truly free.
Rita is survived and missed by her loving husband, Buddy;
children: Lisa (Keith) Brown, Kimberly (Brent) Brown, Stuart
(Amy) Gregory, Keith (Kelley) Gregory, Anna (Keith) Barton,
Stephanie (Trent) Thomson, Nikki (Graham) Phillips; 24
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rita was preceded
in death by her first-born twin sons, her parents and
sister. |

Obituary for
|
|
 |
Buddy Wayne Gregory,
stoic, dedicated and loving husband, father of nine
and spiritual example to all, passed away, full of
peace and surrounded by his loving family, this 14th
day of October, 2015.
Buddy was born at home on July 25, 1930 in Weslaco,
Hidalgo, Texas, to Ralph Alphonso Gregory and Pennie
(nicknamed Nee Nee by grandchildren) Hinda White. He
was the younger of two sons, his only sibling being
his older brother James (Jim) Melvin Gregory who was
born 10 Aug 1924 and died March 23, 1973. Jim always
wanted a “little buddy,” which is how Buddy got his
name.
On December 15, 1951, Buddy married his true love,
Rita Delores Turman. |
Buddy and Rita joining the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were
sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple, on August 25,
1962. They and their family have been active members
of the church ever since. Rita passed away on April
30th, 2009, but Buddy endured for six more years,
living every one of his remaining days in perpetual
dedication to his love.
When Buddy was asked recently, what life lessons he
had learned throughout his 85 years, he simply said,
“Wife, church, and family.” Those three words are
the things that matter the very most to Buddy Wayne
Gregory. He lived his life, selflessly, in pure and
simple adoration of all three. Buddy humbly followed
Our Lord, spreading his gospel far and wide. He
embraced love, nurtured the young, gave charitably,
and erected lasting empires. He loved architecture,
designing every home he owned. But above all, Buddy
architected the lives and love of his
vast family. Buddy was an open door and a giving
hand and he experienced success in all aspects of
his life because of this Christ-like way of life.
Buddy is survived and sorely missed by his children:
Lisa Brown, Kimberly Brown, Stuart (Amy) Gregory,
Keith (Kelley) Gregory, Anna Gregory, Stephanie
(Jason) Holt, Nicole (Graham) Phillips; 25
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Buddy was
preceded in death by his first-born twin sons, his
parents, brother, and his wife.
Interment will be in the Alpine City Cemetery. |
