Marriages and Children
Bethania Elizabeth Dismuke
1833 - 1886/7

About the last name of Dismuke or Dismukes.  The use of the "s" at the end of the name can be considered correct.  The omission of the "s" could also be considered correct.

If you are doing research, use both variations of the name in your search.  Documents found, may use both variations of the name within the same branch of the family.  Even in cemeteries, the same family will use both spellings.  Instead of fighting over which spelling is correct, just accept that both spellings are correct unless you have original source documentation that can track the specific usage of either spelling over a period of time.

Regarding the first name Beth------.  Variations of this name are Bethania, Bethenia, Bethinia, Bethena, Bethany, Betheny
OR.....perhaps Beth-- ia  was just a nick name for Eliza----beth.  There are no print records which show any consistent spelling.  The Macon County, Alabama marriages records indexed her first name as Elizabeth.  So there is the possibility that her name was just Elizabeth and the Bethany part of the name was just a nickname derived from Elizabeth.  On the other hand, the 1870 Census has her initials as "B E".  So it could very well be Beth---- Elizabeth

1886 - 1887 - Both Bethania and John Stewart pass away during these years.  The dates given in family trees are very exact.  However, they do not provide the source of the death dates.  I suspect they came from a family's bible or personal family trees.  Texas did not keep records of deaths during this period nor have there been any grave markers found.
