Donald “Salty” Ray Welch, 73, passed away with his family by his side on February 23, 2015.

He was born June 26, 1941 to the late John and Edna Welch.

Don was a successful business owner in printing and involved with several charities. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Denver, NC and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Don was a lung cancer survivor, a devoted husband and father who cared about others and had a captivating sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Ann (Nichols) Welch of Stanley, NC;
children, Dawn Jankowski (Kevin) of Riverton, UT, Rhomni Williams (Ricky) of Raleigh, NC, Donald J. Welch (Kandy) of Welches, WA; daughter-in-law, Leslie Welch; sisters, Mary Ann Hall (Craig) of Albuquerque, NM, Jeannie Shipman (Larry) of Elkins, WV, Janet Weese of Elkins, WV; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; 2 very supportive nieces, April Zirkle and Sylvia Spencer.

Don was preceded in death by one son, Jay D. Welch.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036.

Mr. Jay Dee Welch, age 49 years, a resident of Junior, WV departed this life Friday afternoon October 18, 2013 at his job site in Randolph County. Although death was sudden and unexpected it was not accident related.

Jay was born August 1, 1964 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was the son of Donald R. Welch of Stanley, North Carolina and Sarah R. Elzinga of Harbor Beach, MI.

In February of 2004 he was united in marriage to the former Leslie Marie Lambert who survives at their home in Junior.

Also surviving are four children, Jerimiah Welch, Toni Welch Bogan , Travis Welch Bogan, Sarah Jane Lambert;
step mother Judy Welch of Stanley, North Carolina; step father Allen Elzinga of Harbor Beach, MI; one brother MSgt. Donald J. Welch USAF (retired) and wife Kandy of Troutdale, Oregon; three step sisters Dawn Renee Jankowski and husband Kevin of Riverton, Utah, Rhomni June Williams and husband Ricky of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ann Elzinga of Port Huron Mi. two step brothers Dale and James Elzinga of Kalamazoo, MI. Also surviving are his mother-in-law and father-in-law John and Sarah Lambert of Junior, two nieces Makenna Welch and Danielle Caples, two great nieces Rylee and Everette Caples all of Bella Vista CA.

Jay attended various schools in and around Charlotte, North Carolina and was currently employed by R & D Sawmill and Logging. Jay loved life and lived every day as if it was his last. He was extremely loving, caring and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful father and husband and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a protestant by faith.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home from 6:30pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. At 7:30pm on Tuesday there will be a time of sharing and reflecting of Jay’s life conducted by Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II. At the request of the deceased his remains will be cremated.
