Oklahoma Home Facelift
Aluminum Siding and Paint
July 26, 2015 - September 23, 2015 |
|
During the later part of July
2015, my husband decided to install aluminum siding
on our Oklahoma home.
The original house siding had sustained hail damage
in the past. He originally planned to just
repair and paint the siding. In fact, he tried
to paint the siding with paint left by the previous
owner only to discover that the paint on the house
had faded a lot and the touch-up paint was now much
too dark. He was unable to paint the whole
house himself because of physical limitations that
would make standing long on a ladder difficult.
He was in the process of hiring a painting company
when one of them suggested the aluminum siding.
He decided to go with the aluminum siding. |

The color of siding that
my husband selected was a color the company
called, "Sand", which is an off white color.
The trim color is blue. These are not
the colors I would have selected, but my
husband makes the overall design decisions
regarding this house.
After the siding was installed on the upper
portions of the home, the bottom portions of
the house needed to be painted the sand and
blue colors to match the siding.

The painting of the exterior was
done by me during September 2015.
The only new siding that was visible at the front of
the house was was on the chimney. The siding
at the front entrance was not covered and needed to
be painted. |

The
garage doors also needed to be painted along
with the front entrance doors.
Around the front window, the wood frame had
peeling paint. A lot of caulk was used when
the new window was installed in 2013.
The trim was sanded down and the window
caulk removed before painting. The
window frame was then painted and re-caulked
with clear caulk.
The old hanging light fixture, which looked
around 30 years old and was beyond
repainting, was removed and replaced with a
new ceiling mounted fixture that matches the
lights on the front of the garage. |

After the front of the house was
painted, all that was left to paint was the backyard
patio ceiling, gutter, and wood beams. |

The
ceiling fan, which used to be all white, was
given a facelift with spray paint.
Everything was painted oil rubbed bronze
except for the blades which were painted
with an antique bronze color.
The clock frame was also given a fresh coat
of paint. |
